Lights in the workshop!

2/29/2020

(Above: Electricity is now flowing within Madre’s workshop.)

Active Summary: Today began with the morningly regimen and was ensued by a hefty bit of work at Madre’s shop. This included: cleaning up some of yesterday’s mess, testing the drains, fastening / wiring the dryer outlet, wiring the dryer / water heater breakers, wiring the main panel box breaker, turning on the electricity/testing all receptacles and switches*, and helping Madre move a few things out of the workshop.

Next, I aided Padre in setting up the new mail box and preparing lunch. Lunch itself was followed by a return to Jacobhouse where I worked on a certain writing task mentioned in the TIL and commentary. After that, I helped out on the farm / checked the beef herd with Padre before again tending to that aforementioned writing task within my abode. Now, having completed that task, I am writing the majority of this entry before heading up to Oldhouse for dinner.

TIL: Today I learned all sorts of information ranging from wiring the main breaker of a panel box to adding functioning endnotes to the end of chapters in the eBook publishing process. Both are a tad too in-depth to explain (with the latter being the far more notorious of the two), so I will instead reveal the concoction with which I deglazed the cast iron skillet earlier after cooking a couple Wagyu burger-steaks. The ingredients consisted of:

  • 2/3 Dixie cup of merlot, allowed to reduce for about 30 seconds
  • 4 tbsp. sour cream
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • ¼ tsp. thyme

Commentary: I somehow keep running a tad late at night, but this evening warrants a little additional commentary in the way of highlights. There are three. Firstly, there is the fact that the drain I hooked up last night is not leaking. Secondly, I helped Madre get her workshop’s electricity up and running (and it all went very smoothly!). Thirdly, I have just finished editing, formatting, and publishing my first Ebook. It is presently being reviewed by Kindle Direct Publishing, and will be up for reading within the next 72 hours**. Now that’s an eventful day.

Final Note: Tomorrow I expect to go to the Farm Market and put together my new desk.

*There was one brief point where Madre flicked on a switch and the light did not turn on. I recalled, however, that it was connected to the GFCI outlet just outside the door. On pressing the outlet’s little reset button, I was very relieved to hear Madre say, “Oh, it’s on!”

** KDP forces the Author to place a $2.99 price on books of 70% or greater commission. However, according to what I have read, I will be able to make that book free for 5 days out of every 90 as soon as it is published.

*** I saw a preview of the novella on my Kindle, and it appears that the conversion program- that which converts my .doc file to an eBook format – performed an excellent job. I see only one minor formatting error that I will need to fix.

  1. So I’m reading your post and as soon as I seen the picture of the Kindle eBook, even though you said the book would be up in about 72 hours, I was attempting to access it by clicking on it. Made myself laugh out loud.

  2. Just finished catching up on your blog and my head is whirling from all you have accomplished. Keep up the good work but don’t forget to take time to smell the flowers!
