Enjoying the new desk.

(Above: Another picture of the Jacobhouse desk.)

Active Summary: Today I woke up, performed the daily morning ritual, and then spent about a couple hours engaged in various writing-related activities*. This was followed by my returning outside to move various items from the freezer room into the milk room and grain room (and neatening the latter). To conclude the morning, I visited with Padre in his studio for a while before heading up to Oldhouse for lunch.

(7:44 PM) This afternoon consisted of cattle-related activities, filling in / tamping around a previously-broken waterline in front of the hay barn, checking the beef pasture with Padre, and tending to the grey-water drainage pit leading from Madre’s workshop. Now, I am back in Jacobhouse where I am presently writing this entry making the exodus up to Oldhouse where I will produce some form of dinner. (10:08 PM Update:) It was salsify & vegetable soup with dumplings. Delicious.

  • A freshly pulled salsify root. I probably should have waited a little bit longer to pull it, but it still tasted delicious!
  • A bowl of salsify & dumpling soup.
  • A steaming pot of salsify-broth stew.
  • Lunch of Master Blend burger-steaks, a sweet potato, and a garden salad.

TIL: I decided to resolve a certain query today that had been sitting in the back of my mind since flying back home from Paris. On the trip back, I watched the movie “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers“, and during that film, I had a startling realization. Gimli was the only / primary dwarf** to be seen throughout all three movies, and he was the only one I recalled from the books. A brief bit of research revealed that even though they were not mentioned often if at all in the Trilogy, Tolkein himself explained in another of his histories that they were fighting on an entirely separate front, defending their mountain home from another army of orcs.

Commentary: I am still quite pleased with this new desk. It is nearly perfect height, and its unique shape really opened up the entire office area. I also find that by having my computer/writing screen positioned toward the corner (versus toward the window), I am far less prone to distraction. When I do wish to distract myself, though, I can still look out to the left and find a scene that is now completely unobstructed by electronics. It is the best of both worlds – a fine purchase.

And speaking of purchases, I feel that I should now mention that my mini-book The Emerald 90 is now available for free on Amazon.

Final Note: Tomorrow I plan on actually completing a school assignment and perhaps washing out some 5-gallon buckets. I also have an appetite for some sushi, so it may warrant a quick trip into Ocala.

*Outlining & publishing shenanigans.

**There was mention of this council at some point during the movie and more than one point during the books.
