Roller shade, buckets, and a stocked pantry.

3/3/2020

(Above: A pantry much more stocked than it previously was – all in preparation of moving the primary kitchen out of Oldhouse.)

Active Summary: This day began with the early-morning routine which was ensued by a bit of writing and some phone research to get Padre hooked up to Visible. Afterward, I ventured to Ocala with Madre where I acquired specialty groceries that cannot be acquired from the garden or farm market* and procured a lunch from Sushi Bistro. Upon returning home, I put away a number of the groceries in Jacobhouse, harvested some greens from the garden, and then ventured up to Oldhouse for lunch.

(8:31 PM Update:) Afternoon activities consisted of the following: setting up the roller shade on the front door, cattle-related activities – cow feeding / calf catching & vaccination / beef herd check, moving my brother’s mattress into storage beneath the Jacobhouse bed, helping Padre with some plumbing in his abode, and cleaning up my abode. Now I’m about to venture up to Oldhouse for dinner.

(10:27 PM Update:) Cooked up a delicious dinner of rapini-wrapped bacon & mushroom rolls. Pictures just below (I also included images of my late-night bucket cleaning):

TIL: Today I learned how to mount and operate a roller shade. The two most vital bits of information I learned are: 1. Beware of the roller shades that are sent from the manufacturer, because the one I received was wound up to a point near ridiculous. AND 2. Never pull on the shade and let go. Otherwise bad things will happen. These two lessons in tandem made for a roller shade whirling out of control, some finger mashing in attempting to stop that whirling, and subsequent bout of simian rage where I almost threw the shade to the ground so as to stomp upon it.

After restraining myself, I mounted it appropriately but found that it was rolling up on the right side a tad more quickly than the left. To remedy this, I drew out about a foot extra of shade and placed a flat piece of tape on the left side. This made the left side roll up a tad more quickly and thus match the right side.

Commentary: Today’s primary highlight so far would no doubt be the sushi lunch with Padre and Madre at Oldhouse. A minor highlight would have to do with the roller shade I installed. Indeed, despite it being a very trying mechanism to install and master, it suits the front door almost** perfectly. The shade’s fully opaque nature will completely block the hot afternoon sun, and when not in use, it cannot get caught in the door.

Final Note: Tomorrow, I reckon there will be more bucket washing. I will also be submitting the school assignment I worked on during my trip to town with Madre.

*Namely cheese, flour, and chicken broth.

** I’m giving it an “almost”, because I’m still recovering from the installation incident.
