Final Note: Kitchen time on the morning of March 5. On my list for that day, there were plenty of tasks ranging from the usual daily writing to fetching windows from my Uncle’s property to various customer correspondences to extra bread-working in preparation for store morning and some Saturday guests. Somehow, though, I was ahead of schedule for write-time. The washer was still going (a rarity; it is usually off by the time I return from the morning beef pasture inspection with P), and the process of making coffee had already begun. Despite the fine time I was making, I was troubled by the number of things on my to-do list and perplexed at how I was going to accomplish all of it that day. This was accentuated by the fact that I was on a ‘dissatisfied pattern’ where my brain was focusing on life’s various faults instead of its boons.

That’s when the stove top began to vibrate. It happens when the washing machine goes into its spin cycle. One of the burners began to rattle, and the resultant sound was especially irksome. So, without a thought, I decided to stop that rattling. With my hand. The burner that was already on because I was ahead of schedule and about to have my coffee & write time.

Needless to say, all thought and presence was brought to the “here and now” in the ensuing two seconds. It wasn’t a bad burn, but the mark it left has since become an amusing reminder to remain present and to focus on the boons of life and to capitalize on my own strengths rather than constantly searching for faults (personal an environmental) in need of rectification.

This morning (3/5), before writing, I burned my hand on the stove. I think it was an unconscious part of me telling me I needed to be more present. Here and now.
Esta mañana (5/3), antes de escribir, me quemé la mano con la estufa. Creo que era una parte unconsciente de mí, que me decía que necesitaba estar más presente. Aquí y ahora.

And a special thanks to my subconscious for following the recent note-card I have attached to the computer monitor in my office.

This is a note I recently pinned to the screen in my office.
“Cultivate favorable patterns. Disrupt unfavorable patterns.”
Esta es una nota que fijé recientemente a la pantalla en mi oficina.
“Cultiva los patrones favorables. Interrumpe los patrones desfavorables.”

  1. Quite the week, appreciate the sharing of great food and this week’s ‘here and now’ reminder… I’ll take my cue to learn vicariously on that one though. Also great to see the farm greening up.
