(Above: The new shelving above the kitchen worktable.)
Active Summary: Today I woke up, performed the morning regimen, and then worked on my Macroeconomics class for about an hour before heading outdoors. Outside, I assembled a stainless steel shelf* and brought it to the front deck of Jacobhouse. This was followed by my joining Padre at the Studio to help him hang a tubed dish-drying shelf/rack above his kitchen sink. The morning’s final event was to harvest vegetables for lunch and start the water sprinkler.
(7:24 PM Update:) This afternoon’s activities consisted of working on Macroeconomics assignments, helping with cattle-related activities (weaning / vaccinating calves being the primary event), filling compost bags with Padre, and putting up a stainless steel shelf in Jacobhouse with Padre’s aid. Before tending to this entry, I harvested some greens out of the garden for dinner.
TIL: Today I learned that there is a program called Mysms that allows phone texts to be sent to another connected appliance – a laptop in my case. Now, whenever I receive texts I will not need to get up and walk** to the front of Jacobhouse to see who it is or what the message contained.
I also learned more about a gardening method that Madre told me about. From what I recalled of the conversation, it seemed like special burlap sack was going to be required, but to be certain I looked up ‘sack gardening’ online. From what I read the only requirement was a breathable sack – something that allowed water to pass freely in and out. This prompted me to think of the hundreds of polypropylene bags that I have available and that are presently only used for bagging and selling compost. I was next going to look up whether or not such bags could be utilized for sack gardening, but I did not have to when I found this article about bag gardening. I do believe I may have found a way of raised-bed gardening that does not require me to use old oil buckets.
Commentary: Not much to say this day other than it was quite toasty outside. I opened the windows of Jacobhouse first thing this morning, but it actually got hot enough in the afternoon to where I had to shut them and run the air condition. (9:21 PM Update:) Made omelets for myself and Madre tonight, they came out terrifically.
Final Note: Tomorrow or later today, I will be installing the stainless steel kitchen shelf. I also intend to wash more buckets, though I think I will be a tad more picky… Last night’s took quite a lot of effort to clean. (9:41 PM Update:) I believe I’ll be trying out the sack method first before cleaning anymore buckets.
*This shelf was originally destined for Padre’s Studio, but he either determined it was not required or knew that Jacobhouse would soon be in need of more kitchen storage. As for the assembly process, it was fairly easy except for when I had to adjust the holes on one of the brackets. Due to my wanting all the braces to face in the same direction, I had to make slight modifications via drill.
**A phenomenon caused by my utilizing the phone as a hotspot. The best reception and mbps are received from the front of Jacobhouse while my office is at the back. It made for quite a number of trips every day.
