Final Note: Confidence is the word for this week. It hangs above the piano. All of my self-reminders are now hanging above the piano because – well – for two reasons actually. Honorlock proctoring (for college) forced me to remove my notes from the bottom of the computer screen because “Appreciating Simplicity”, “Cultivating Favorable Patterns”, and “Confidence” are apparently key concepts when it comes to quizzes concerning financial statement analysis. Despite that bit of ridiculousness, I have found I like the notes better in their new location. They seem to stand out more. Maybe it’s because I don’t stare in that direction so often, so the reminders don’t have such propensity to fade into the background. Furthermore, confidence is key when it comes to music. I have found that by consciously switching my mentality away from ‘avoiding and/or rectifying errors’ to the simple concept of ‘confidently keeping the tempo’, practice & play has become much more enjoyable and fulfilling.

I wonder if there’s some form of metaphor to be found here.

  1. No doubt those are three key concepts, but probably not for the class your currently involved in, at least not in the way that would be considered cheating. I agree with all three, especially in conjunction with one another. It was a week of great food, it was a week of tasty guiso. As always, thanks for sharing.
