4/3/19:
Building Summary (Morning): Today I started off by installing the washer/dryer outlet box on the back side of the panel frame. This was followed by my running wire to it and then by my stripping that wire. The rest of the morning was spent ‘dust-blowing’ – a process where I used Madre’s vacuum-cleaner’s reverse setting to blow out the debris that have collected beneath the grated floor.
(Afternoon): Alan and Terry were free today due to a certain job’s falling through, so they called to see if Padre and I wanted to work on Jacobhouse. Though not expecting this occurrence, we accepted, and got to work. The primary activities that ensued were installing the outlets* and switches, and on the surface-mounted ones, fastening the face-plates over them.
Commentary: I spent a large amount time at Jacobhouse today, and I think I can safely say that none of it was idling. Fortunately, enjoyment of rest seems directly correlative to how much work I’ve gotten done, and soon, I shall be able to engage in that glorious end-of-day repose.
Now for highlights. The first and most obvious was the surprise-arrival of Alan and Terry Hendrickson. It seems that a lot of work gets done when they’re around; that, and a lot of learning. Today, Alan taught me how to wire outlets – both the typical sort and the GFCI sort – and he did so in a way that made it seem incredibly simple**. Terry and Padre, meanwhile, wired the outlet and switches into the closet-wall, and they set up for the bathroom’s vent fan. All of this and more*** occurred within a span of two hours, and it left Jacobhouse even closer to having power.
The second highlight, and one that’s a bit more minor than the first, was the dust-blowing shenanigans this morning. I was skeptical as to how well an electric blower would work compared to a gasoline one, but I was willing to try it on account of not having to deal with fumes or fuel leaks. Turns out, it worked quite well. Almost too well. The first moment I turned it on, great plumes of dessicated cow manure, sawdust, and other miscellaneous debris erupted from the slats of the container’s floor. It got all over everything, including me, but luckily the blower is able to be used on more than just floor surfaces. By the end of morning, the mess was all cleaned up, and the floor is now as free of filth as it’s ever been since arriving to the work site.
Final Note: Tomorrow I’ll begin by installing as many as I can of the outlets that Alan provided me with. This will likely be accompanied at some point by a journey down to Sparr Farm Supply to obtain ¾” and ½” sheets of plywood (for the walls and floor).
Additional Note: Apologies for any grammatical / spelling errors. It has been a busy day (as can be seen), it’s past 8:00 and still need to cook some dinner. It’s going to be pizza tonight. Mmmm…
*Most of them. There are still more that I will be installing quite soon.
** Something for which I am quite grateful.
*** Terry also wired the bathroom and kitchen switches. He was busy the whole time, though, I think that also goes for everyone else.
