3/12/2023: Today began in the high 40s and warmed into the low 80s. Sunny morning. Cloudy afternoon.
Morning of 3/12/2023: I pulled out 3 Roasts for Ashley of Fat Tuscan. They, along with a few other cuts, shall be used for next Sunday’s beef-inundated dinner at the Fat Tuscan. Lunch: Skillet sautéed eggs and a salad consisting of the following Jacobhouse garden produce: broccoli, kale, arugula, radish, and carrot. Dessert: One sliced Fuji apple accompanied by a little bit of Greek Yogurt. Dinner consisted of a simple Belgian Blue ragu sauce (molcajete pizza sauce accompanied by 2 lbs Belgian Blue ground beef) and a few slices of zucchini-topped ‘pizza bread’. The zucchinis had been marinated in olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and black pepper for about 5 hours before placing atop the bread to cook. An edible arrangement of Fuji apple, strawberries, and Greek Yogurt.

3/13/2023: Today began in the low 60s and warmed into the low 70s. A bit rainy until afternoon. Cooling down toward dusk.
Dawn of 3/13/2023. Over the past 12 hours and the ensuing 6 hours (after this picture was taken), it rained about 1 inch in total. Late lunch of 3/13/2023: After a morning chockfull of activities ranging from cow-sorting to writing to dropping the van off for repair work to more cow-sorting, Padre and I got to sit down for the afternoon repast. Madre also joined us for a time despite having eaten a little bit earlier. Jacobhouse on a cloudy spring afternoon.
Casa de Jacobo en una tarde nublado de primavera. Dinner of 3/13/2023: Slow-roasted Wagyner Blue chuck & broccoli leaves. Accompanied by a cucumber, cabbage, carrot, and tomato salad. The two sauces were homemade no-sugar-added BBQ (bigger) and a tamarind paste wrought by Ashley of Fat Tuscan. It was a tremendous meal. A dessert consisting of cinnamon-sprinkled Fuji apple, strawberries, and a dollop of Greek yogurt.
We have since sprayed a little bit of permethrin at the base of the compost stand, and it seems to have remedies this problem.
3/14/2023: Today began in the high 40s and proceeded to warm to the low 70s. Sunny throughout.
Dawn of 3/14/2023: Big Blue #273 standing with her milk-faced calf Wagyner Blue calf, #7271. Lunch of 3/14/2023: Skillet-sautéed eggs accompanied by a Padre-made & Madre-dressed green salad. For the dinner of 3/15/2023, I cooked a pan pizza. It had a sour dough crust, mozzarella cheese, marinated zucchini, and a little bit of smoked paprika.

A dessert of cinnamon-sprinkled Fuji apple, strawberry, and Greek yogurt.
3/15/2023: Today began in the high 40s and warmed into the high 60s. Cloudy morning, sunny afternoon.
Dawn of 3/15/2023. A quick fix to the wooden fence which was breaking apart at the front of the shade barn. The last time I worked on this fence was about one year ago right before I went to Taxco. The chiltepin plant is growing flowers. Peppers will soon follow.
La planta chiltepin está creciendo flores. Pronto, el pimientos seguirán. The central herd awaiting admittance to the central feed barn at noon. Lunch today was enjoyed at Latinos y Más. Isabella taught us a Colombian (or possibly Venezuelan or both) slang greeting of: “¿Cómo está la nota?” (Answer if a good day / mood: La nota está bien.) Late-afternoon East herd inspection of 3/15/2023. Dinner of 3/15/2023 occurred after Ravioli-cooking class at Fat Tuscan. I brought those ravioli home and shared them with Padre and Madre alongside some leftover pizza and a Padre-made & Jacob-dressed cucumber salad. Dessert: One sliced Fuji apple accompanied by a strawberry and a spoonful of Greek Yogurt.
3/16/2023: Today began in the high 30s (patchy frost) and warmed into the mid 70s. Sunny throughout.
Morning of 3/17/2023: As the day warmed up, the caterpillars came back to life.
Mañana de 17/3/2023: Mientrás el día se volvío más caliente, las orugas volvieron a vida. Mid-afternoon cattle-sorting occurred in this rustically bordered & boarded lot. I’m not certain where the pictures of my egg & salad lunch went. They may have been lost in the phone switchover. Phone switchover occurred on 3/17/2023. Reverse-seared coffee-encrusted Belgian Blue bottom round. The full dinner spread: Belgian Blue bottom round accompanied by a green salad and a glass of Merlot. A little bit of sour cream to the side for dipping. A picture of the entire delicious fare. Dessert: A Granny Smith Apple & Strawberry plate accompanied by a little bit of the sour cream and Merlot remaining to the main course.
3/17/2023: Today began in the low 40s and warmed into the low 80s.
Dawn of 3/17/2023. The rising sun belit the cat’s claw creeper vines draped from the oaks’ upper boughs. A carrot I harvested this morning. The flavor and the texture were
excellent.

Lunch of 3/17/2023: Belgian Blue taco salad consisting of greens (romaine lettuce & spinach) topped with Belgian Blue ground beef, roasted red peppers, salsas (verde y taquera), and sour cream. For dessert, I enjoyed a sliced Granny Smith apple accompanied by a little bit of Greek Yogurt. Mid-afternoon beef pasture inspection with the Padre. The clouds were beginning to indicate tomorrow’s predicted rainfall. Eggs acquired from Dana & her daughters for potential sale in the freezer room tomorrow morning. Dinner of 3/17/2023: A BBQ Zucchini & Summer Squash casserole accompanied by a Padre-made & Jacob-dressed green salad. A Granny Smith dessert apple, sliced and arranged in a unique manner.
3/18/2023: Today began in the high 60s and warmed into the low 80s. Mostly cloudy throughout, and rain in the afternoon.
Dawn of 3/18/2023. We found one more coyote-bitten calf today (not pictured here). However, one day later (3/19/2023), that calf is doing quite well and there are no more bites to report. Lunch of 3/18/2023: Skillet-sautéed eggs accompanied by a large Padre-made & Madre-dressed green salad. Dessert: A sliced Granny Smith apple accompanied by a dollop of Greek yogurt and a sprinkling of cinnamon. The mid-afternoon beef pasture inspection took place on foot due to intermittent bouts of precipitation.
Mientrás mi padre y yo estabamos chequeado los pastos, estaba lloviendo un poco. A miniature carrot harvested alongside those which were collected for the dinner salad. Belgian Blue – Gaur hybrid Prometheus after he had been attacking the earth with his mighty skull. Slow-roasted Belgian Blue beef shank steak & mini-chuck roast seasoned with salt, pepper, and fresh garlic & rosemary. The full dinner spread of 3/18/2023: Slow-roasted Belgian Blue beef shank & chuck roast accompanied by a Padre-made cucumber, tomato, & carrot salad. Homemade BBQ sauce & mustard were used for dipping. A wider view of the previously pictured fare, also displaying the glass of Merlot that was enjoyed alongside it. Dessert consisted of an arrangement of Granny Smith apple slices, cinnamon, and Greek yogurt.
Final Note: This week, the Padre and Madre are going to México for a few nights. I am not going, but I am engaging in some adventures at home. These will likely be shown in next week’s post. ¡Buen viaje a todos!
