(Above: Within twenty minutes of opening the yard surrounding Jacobhouse, the bovines were wandering about as if they owned the place. Fortunately, they do not seem too interested in traversing stairs.)
Active Summary (6:43 PM): This day began with a couple small household chores, a beef pasture ride with Padre, and then by my initiating the mowing of Jacobhouse’s lawn (pictured below). I next ventured indoors for a brief time where I performed calisthenic exercises and collected my laptop to bring to the freezer room. Once within that peaceful and pleasantly dry chamber*, I wrote for a few hours and tended to a three customers. To conclude the morning activities, I drove to Aneta’s Bistro where I collected a lunch of Beef Tongue Special, Viennese Schnitzel, a couple sandwiches (Hunter Stew and Blood Sausage), and some cabbage salad.
(6:49 PM Update:) After a mostly** superb meal, I ventured to Jacobhouse where I rested and then took some leisure time where I mainly read some ‘Babbitt’ by Sinclair Lewis. This was followed by farm activities where Padre and I completed a large variety of bovine-related tasks within a constant drizzling rain. The mud is beginning to grow quite deep in some places, with my boot nearly disappearing entirely as I forked barley into weanlings’ feed. Afternoon activities ended with a break in the Master Blend Freezer room where Padre and I drank seltzer before heading out on a 45-minute*** pasture patrol.
Final Note: The remainder of this evening will likely be spent in a leisurely fashion. At some point, I will be making my way over to the studio for dinner; also, I shall likely begin preparing some of the ingredients for tomorrow’s chicken potpie experiment (baking potatoes and an couple onions).
*Quite comfortable compared to the outdoors.
** The cabbage salad was the only lackluster item. The salads must have been sitting in the fridge for a tad longer than usual, for they had a slightly fermented flavor. That is not to say the meal was not excellent. It was. The beef tongue special was even more delicious than I expected it to be. (Consisted of sliced tongue in a hearty gravy served alongside mashed potatoes and beet salad.)
*** On foot.
