(Above: Me being [unknowingly] photographed putting up a PVC trim-board.)
Building Summary: Today I began installing PVC trim boards to the exterior side of Wall #6. This included: setting up a work bench on the old Art*-made sawhorses, measuring/marking/cutting the PVC trim boards with the ancient Hugh**-given miter saw, and caulking / fastening over half of those trim boards in place.
(2:40 PM Update:) Padre and I just got back from meeting Alan and Terry Hendrickson at Jacobhouse. There, we measured the distance from the meter to the utility hole so as to know how much 2″ conduit and heavy-gauge wire will be needed to bring electric into the container.
Commentary: And I’m back to it once again! The morning started out cool and clammy on account of yesterday evening’s rainfall but it commenced to warm up once the sun rose above the trees, soon rendering a very tropical clime. Fortunately, the majority of my work this morning occurred in or near the shade of a big ole oak tree.
As for additional commentary, I will state that I got a fair share of exercise this morning. Between the above-mentioned measuring, marking, cutting, and fastening of the PVC trim boards, I must have been up and down the ladder half-a-hundred times (actually may be an understatement).
(2:40 PM Update:) Though initially unenthused at the thought of going back down to Jacobhouse in the afternoon heat to work on tasks of electrical nature, I am now very glad I did so. Because of that 40-minute jaunt, Alan and/or Terry*** will soon acquire the supplies needed to bring electric from the outdoor meter to the in-house panel box. That’s a town-trip I won’t have to make, and it will save the electricians some effort, too, because I’ll do all the digging and line-feeding/fishing work. Then, all they will have to do is show me how to make the hook-ups at both ends.
Final Note: Tomorrow I intend to finish trimming the exterior of Wall #6. I will also be aligning the edges of the PVC pieces with one another by loosening/tightening a few screws, and after that is complete, I’ll be caulking any remaining gaps and crevices.
*Art was a tough and lively old guy who used to work on our family farm. He passed away a number of years ago, but his tools and his sawhorses remain – all of which have helped quite a lot in the building of Jacobhouse. I think he would have appreciated that.
**Hugh was another old yet spirited fellow who liked to collect tools. He was the husband to the piano teacher who taught my brother and I. Like Art, both O’dells have passed away, but they left much knowledge and resources behind – knowledge and resources that I have used almost every day since.
***When Terry went in and explored Jacobhouse today, Padre and I could not help but notice his smiling at the progress that had occurred since his last visit.
I appreciated you helping me to remember those who have ventured onto the next level, but still are enriching the lives of those that remain behind.
