(Above: Trim above the bathroom doorway.
Active Summary: This morning’s Jacobhouse activities began with Padre, Wag, and I venturing down to Sparr Farm Supply. Along the way, we came across a section of fence along the farm’s front side that had been decimated*. Provisional repairs ensued, and then we continued with our journey down to Sparr. There, I procured rivets that I thought I would be needing for trim installation.
Back at Jacobhouse, trim-times ensued. Measuring / marking / cutting / notching… all of it occurred, and by about noon I had installed 2″ angle stock above both sides of the bathroom door and above the office sliding glass doors (the latter I had to fashion some spacers for, because there was apparently no other way to fasten it securely in place). To finish off the morning, I glued a few little pieces of flat-stock at the corners of the bathroom trim to cover up the uneven edges.
(8:22 PM Update): This afternoon Padre, Wag, and I ventured down to Sparr once again. There, we procured more pipe pieces for Padre’s Studio project and a piece of ¾” aluminum angle-stock for beneath the bed. On returning to the farm, I went to Jacobhouse and measured / cut / glued the angle-stock in place, used adhesive on the slightly troublesome section of flooring, and fastened plastic drawers within the closet-wall.
TIL: Today I learned how to cook scallops on the grill. I simply coated them** with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and then gently placed them on the gas grill which had been preheated to 500 degrees F. Next, I closed the lid*** for 2 minutes before opening it up and flipping the mollusks. The next side took 3 minutes, and after all of the morsels registered 135 – 140+, I quickly removed them from the heat. The grill marks were pleasant to look upon, but it was the perfect texture that really impressed Padre and I. Alas, no pictures were taken, because we were too busy consuming them!
Commentary: I completed all of the construction activities mentioned in yesterday’s post (and then some), but I was unable to clean the place up. I could have, but I did not want to rush the task… and I also wanted to make some pizza for Madre, my brother, and I before the middle one – the brother – goes on a short trip. Thus, the ‘big’ move is delayed one more day.
Final Note: Tomorrow I plan on bringing my laptop and DSL line down to Jacobhouse where I shall make sure that the internet is working appropriately (was only showing 0.5 mbps download when I tested on my phone this evening). When I am inevitably on hold with Centurylink, I will declutter Jacobhouse, and then I shall vacuum up all the wood-dust and metal shards created by my trim activities over the past few days.
* Actually, to say that there was even a smidgen of fence left in that fifty foot swathe would be a vast overstatement. I’m quite happy that the hundred or so beasts that live therein behaved themselves last night and decided to stay in their lot.
