Building Summary: Today I started off by bringing and unloading the ready-to-assemble cabinets at Jacobhouse. This was followed by my watching the hardware company’s instructional video and learning that I needed wood glue to begin assembly. Shortly afterward, Padre, Wag, and I journeyed down to Sparr Farm Supply and collected the wood glue along with the brass fittings that were needed to connect the tankless water heater to the container home’s main hot waterline.
After returning from Sparr, Padre and I went out to Jacobhouse and set about hooking up the water heater. It all was going seemingly well until it came time for the long-awaited waterline test. Unfortunately, when I turned on the inlet valve, we discovered there to be a leak coming from the left brass fitting (where the flexible hose connected to the appliance). The culprit turned out to be a bent ring, so we went back down to Sparr and fetched another. Our second attempt was again semi-unsuccessful, so Padre and I wrapped the male threads with teflon tape and tried again. Only then, was a secure connection made*, and the lines fully tested.
Commentary: There was a storm brewing this morning when I went down to the container home, and the wind was gathering speed for almost the entire time I was present. Fortunately, the rain did not come until late in the morning, well after I had lugged the cabinet boxes into Jacobhouse.
As for highlights, there were a couple to note. The first occurred during mine and Padre’s return to Sparr Farm Supply (after I had accidentally bent the first brass ring). There, one of the associates helped us out by finding a matching ring out of the store’s ‘spare-parts box’ and bidding us “have a good day” when we asked the price.
The second highlight occurred afterward when Padre and I were racing against the approaching tempest to fit the flexible waterline onto the heater**. We succeeded in hooking the water heater to the main line, and on doing so, were able to test the integrity of my prior orange-glue job. Due to this being a highlight, it has already likely been assumed that the waterline test went quite well… and that would be a correct assumption to make.
Final Note: The cabinet boxes are in Jacobhouse, the work table is ready, and I now have wood-glue. Tomorrow, I begin cabinet assembly.
*Alas, when I went to the container home this evening, I found a miniscule bead of water that had eeked its way between the brass fitting and Teflon tape. If it is there again tomorrow, I intend to fix it either via tightening the fitting a tad farther OR by using some J.B. Water Weld (an internet solution that I found this evening).
** Due to a certain series of events including a soon-to-arrive Master Blend Customer, I was to remain at the farm and drive the family van home while Padre intended to walk… hopefully before the storm arrived. I do think he won the race, seeing as I didn’t hear any stories about the journey after I had returned to oldhouse.
