The slide-out closet (and a rapture).

Building Summary: Today was a full duration morning lasting from about 7:00 AM to 12:15 PM. During that time, I measured, marked, cut, clamped, and fastened together the entire wood frame for the slide-out closet.

Commentary: It was a long morning today down at Jacobhouse, so it took me some time to choose the best bits for this entry. I think I found three suitable candidates, though, which I will proceed to describe with brevity below:

The first highlight was my morning Segway ride through the beef field with Padre. I’ve been using Android’s ‘camera search’ function to identify the various mushrooms growing up in the pastures, and today we saw three identifiable species. The first was the false parasol. That was the mushroom I included a picture of in the blog post three days past. The second was a shaggy ink cap (supposedly edible if I ever glean the gumption to try it), and the third was another form of ink cap named a Japanese Parasol (small and ornate). Both of the latter are shown in the included Twitter post.

My second event of interest was in regard to the nearby hive of bees. They have been extremely active as of late – almost unsettlingly so – and today was the first time that I saw them react to my use of the circular saw. A couple drones decided to do a flyby (close enough I could hear them) right as I was finishing up with the tool, but fortunately, they must have deemed me harmless, for they were soon flying off back to their hive.

As for the third event, that would simply be the fact that the slide-out closet fit into its aperture quite snugly – a major step forward from the roughly drawn diagrams from yesterday. The only trouble I might have is fitting in the drawer slides. I made sure while measuring / cutting that there would be enough space for a slide to either side, but the gaps still ended a tad smaller than I wanted then to be. Fortunately, there is enough room near the base for slides, and I can always attach the other pair to the very top. Either way, a hefty amount of progress was made today.

Oh and here’s a bonus image:

Rapture au naturel.
A cicada sheds its earthly husk so it may ascend to the heavens.

Final Note: Tomorrow I intend to hang the slide-out closet on two sets of heavy duty, full extension drawer slides.
