2/23/19:
Building summary: Today I cut the boards I marked yesterday, and I put them together as if they were a miniature version of the frame extension at the front of Jacobhouse (i.e. pre-drilling the holes before fastening with screws). The final result was quite square and looks like it will easily straighten out the warped boards of ‘closet-wall’.
Commentary: This morning I learned not to handle a broken drill bit with bare fingers. Fortunately, the two resultant cuts were very shallow; that, and they lent a couple boards some additional character. Red highlights, I suppose one could say.
On the note of typical highlights*, there is one I should mention. Padre and I were heading home for the morning, and as we did so, we had to look around for the mischievous Wagyu calf I spoke of in yesterday’s post. We searched all over the field for her but then noticed that ‘ma’ was staring at us when we went near Jacobhouse. After a look around the yard, though, we still could not find the little Wagyu.
Another minute or two more passed before I had an idea. I went around to the north side of Jacobhouse – the side with much shorter grass – got down on my knees (got in some fireweed, too), and peered beneath the container. Sure enough, there was a little Wagyu looking back at me with its big ole calf-eyes. I took a picture**, and then Padre pulled her out from the other side and carried her across the field to ‘ma’.
Final note: Tomorrow, I plan on straightening out the closet-wall via use of the ‘straightener’ I made today.
*Pretty sure ‘typical highlights’ would be an oxymoron – something that today’s post covers in detail.
**Another instance of uniqueness that I could not pass up. Who else can say that they’ve had a purebred Wagyu hiding under their house?
