Plied-wood (and an adjustable bracket box).

Building Summary: Today I fastened plywood to the bathroom side of the pocket door wall, effectively finishing the ‘plywooding’ of the lavatory’s interior. I also cut and tacked up the small section of plywood just to the left of the bathroom’s entrance (exterior side between the exposed shelves of Wall #4 and the left side of the pocket doorway).

Commentary: Even though I have performed the tasks of planning, cutting, and fastening what feels to be an innumerable amount of times, I still have moments where I’m amazed at what careful measurement can accomplish. For example, today I had to make a cutout for the bathroom light’s electrical box. I measured down from the top and from the right, taking the measurements and subtracting ¹/₈ ” to allow for some padding space. Then, I measured the electrical box itself, adding ²/₈” to account for the padding I had already implemented and to add just a wee bit more.

To make a long story short*, the top half of the pocket-wall’s plywood fit perfectly in almost every respect. There was a tiny gap between the top half and the bottom half on the east side, but that will be covered with the wall tiling**. As for the part that mattered most to me – the electrical box cutout – it was perfect, and because I had mounted an adjustable bracket box up there, I was able to move the plastic box outward so it was completely flush with the pocket-wall’s plywood.

Final Note: Tomorrow I intend to bring more ½” plywood out to Jacobhouse and begin fully closing in the bathroom walls (will include cutting more electrical box holes for the hall light / switches and the bedroom fire alarm / outlet).

*Or rather, to keep a short story brief.

** I think I may end up using some form of wood-grained or metallic wall tile to cover up / finish the plywood walls, but I’m still looking through the options. Input is always appreciated.
