Supplies for Jacobhouse.

Lifting many things.

8/9/19

(Above: An amassment of supplies for Jacobhouse belit by late-noon sun beam.)

Building Summary: This morning at Jacobhouse, I managed to install the blocking beneath the toilet’s base*. After that, it was time for the Home Depot supply run. There, I helped Madre pick up the doors and windows for her storage / workshed project, and I helped out Padre by selecting and procuring a steel door for the front of his studio along with a storm door that will allow a fair amount of light inside.

As for Jacobhouse materials, they are as follows: two interior doors for the sliding barn door / bathroom pocket door, six 2×4 planks for the kitchen counter concrete form, five bags of rapid-set mortar mix, 5 packs flow-control (for mortar mix), a mortar mixer attachment for a power drill, a can of WD-40 (for ensuring that the concrete does not stick to the form), a toilet supply hose / brass fittings to attach it to the CPVC stub-up, sink supply hoses, and a faucet for the vanity sink.

(6:11 PM Update): Just glued together the CPVC-to-brass fitting. Tomorrow, I will be able to hook up the toilet!

Commentary: It is presently 9:00 PM, so it’s another late entry this evening – a late entry after a particularly long and activity filled day. I’m sitting here in front of the laptop at the moment, waiting for anything interesting to ‘pop in’, but I instead find my head slumping forward (noggin noddin’) and my eyes falling shut.

It’s a tired feeling, but it’s not weariness. No, it’s the good sort of tired – a kind one can only attain through a day jam-packed with productivity and progress whilst simultaneously imbued with the knowledge that the following day holds just as much if not more potential.

I have a note here from earlier that I think I could make mention of. It’s the fact that between loading and unloading 6 doors, 1 window, 5 sacks of concrete, and seemingly countless numbers of beef boxes today, it has been a day of lifting. I must have lugged and loaded and budged and shifted many, many times my own weight, and yet, I’m not sore – not in the slightest. I deem this to be an effect of daily calisthenic exercises (mentioned in some portions of the Colorado trip) along with the fact that my body is one very remarkable piece of machinery.

Good job, body, and goodnight.

  • The new toilet in Jacobhouse with trimmed shims and extended base.
  • The toilet stub up with brass adapter in place.

Final Note: Tomorrow I will begin by connecting the toilet to the brass pipe fitting that I installed this afternoon. After that, I shall caulk around the toilet base and then commence with the installation of the vanity sink (looks quite simple).

*Joined together the two blocks with a couple 2-½” screws, applied glue to the postern 2×4, and then inserted them beneath the toilet. To hold them in place, I forced a couple plastic shims beneath the blocks. This produced the dual result of diminishing the slight gap and leveling out the toilet. Should also be noted that I trimmed the shims today, so the toilet base is ready for caulking.
