11/4/19
(Above: An image of the recently added fifth row in Jacobhouse’s garden.)
Active summary: This morning I awoke at 6:00 AM and initiated the morning routine of calisthenic exercises, creative writing, and then dressing to venture into the cool outdoors. The morning ride-around ensued, during which Padre and I found that the beef herd was doing quite well*. I followed this up with some garden work (finished the additional row which was mentioned yesterday) and then with more writing time.
The second phase of the morning consisted of trip to town with Madre where we visited Sam’s Club, Home Depot, and Publix. At the foremost and lattermost stores, we procured groceries while at Home Depot, we acquired a decent amount of supplies for the Madre Workshop and Padre Studio projects. This was accompanied by a couple bits of Jacobhouse material, too: a bootbox and some lagbolts for fastening the deck posts in place.
Morning ended when we returned home and Padre / I had sushi lunch from Ninja Sushi** and Madre / Camoen had a lunch from Piesanos.
(6:22 PM Update:) There were quite a number of cattle to tend this afternoon, and with the early arrival of dusk, I was unable to work on the deck rail of Jacobhouse. However, Madre did bring the bootbox down from Oldhouse whereupon I assembled it in less than two minutes. I also obtained the Sprint simcard for the upcoming internet / service test.
TIL: Today I learned that if one wants just plain and simple tea (no citrus / potpourri flavor), look for English Breakfast or Irish Breakfast tea. On account of these beverages frequently being doctored with cream, sugar, and other additives, the teabags do not contain anything aside from tea leaves. I brewed up a cup after lunch today – a strange time, I know, but I did it nevertheless – and found it to be exactly what I was looking for: pure, unadulterated leafy flavor.
Commentary: Despite my being unable to work directly on the deck rail, today has been progressive. There were a number of highlights to be had, but I believe the top three would be: working in the garden during the early hours (forming that fifth row), venturing to town and procuring myriad ingredients for various cooking experiments***, and a delicious sushi lunch.
Final Note: With the lagbolts we procured from Home Depot, all I need to do now is help chainsaw the 6×6 posts and cut some 2×6 boards for the Jacobhouse’s deck railing. The deck rail should then be ready for installation… though, I’m still tempted to place it all in the beef field so the cows can work it over first. (6:37 PM Update:) After I post this entry, I will be taking a test for my American History class. I suppose a benefit of shortening days is that I’m afforded more opportunities to work on school.
*Bovines are meant for and very much enjoy cool weather.
** I placed my order at Ninja Sushi in-person. The establishment is operated by happy people who treat their customers quite well (i.e. spoil them). After asking what the staffs’ favorite appetizer was, they proceeded to provide one – a delicious fried cream-cheese / crab roll – free of charge. To add to this, when I asked if I could place an order for a to-go beverage, they procured one for me – also free.
*** One of these experiments is to occur this evening. I have all the ingredients for Chokladbollar – a treat that I will not include details of until tomorrow when I will have a better idea of the process, texture, and taste.
