3/1/2019:
Building Summary: Today I fixed the mini-gutter at the front of Jacobhouse, neatened up the inside, and planned / fetched more boards for the remaining ‘floor-boards’ of the closet and office area.
Commentary: Alas, the electrician didn’t make it out to Jacobhouse this morning, but he did call and say that he’d be able to come on Monday.
As for highlights, the first occurred early this morning, and it consisted of my fixing the mini-gutter. It was note quite as easy as I thought; one of the screws would not come out, so I had to drill it all the way through the gutter and into the PVC board behind it. After that, though, it was a fairly standard procedure: peel back the caulking on the north end, remove it, move the 1 ½” piece down a tad, and then fasten it in place with the screw I took out. I also added a screw to account for the one that went ‘missing’. This was followed by applying four little plugs to make the screw-holes virtually invisible, and then by my recaulking the top of the gutter and the underside where the crack was showing previously.
The second highlight was a simple one. I went to the barn to search for 2x4s that may or may not have been there. An episode of Schrödinger’s Woodpile, it was… until it wasn’t. Indeed, in that woodpile, I not only found a 16-footer but also a slew of 8-footers that were actually quite nice and straight. This means that I will have enough material for floorboards.*
Bonus Highlight: A good end to the day. I made some home-made tacos this evening with some Master Blend ground beef. The meat was simple – a conglomerate of peppers, salt, and a tad bit of honey. The tacos, on the other hand, were extravagant. They bore (along with meat): lettuce, tomato, onion, fresh-cut poblano pepper, cilantro, queso-blanco, and salsa – both of the red and green sort – all served on a pan-fried corn tortilla. Delicious.
*This also means that I will be able to keep my ‘discount lumber streak’ going. I have not yet purchased full-priced wood in the entire construction of Jacobhouse.
