(Above: This [the brown board] is the freshly painted and installed spacer for the bathroom’s pocket door.)
Building Summary: This morning’s Jacobhouse activities consisted of my selecting a spacer-board for the bathroom’s pocket door, cutting it to the appropriate length via handsaw, and then priming it / painting on the first coat of brown.
In the time between primer / paint coats, I ventured down to Harbison Farmers’ Market, procured produce, brought it to Oldhouse, and put it away. I also cleared away the refuse lumber / galvalume pile that was placed atop the sawhorses next to Jacobhouse’s deck. The usable lumber and galvalume was recycled to corresponding piles in the haybarn while the rest was, at long last, discarded.
(7:54 PM Update:) This afternoon I added a second coat of paint to the spacer board from this morning (by the way, it was a 1×4). After cattle activities, I proceeded to fasten that board to the east side of the bathroom pocket door’s entrance*. This was ensued by more cleanup and then by my replacing the old, battered, and tattered pieces of office chair with brand new pieces. To finish off the evening, I brought the three remaining/extra boxes of grip-strip flooring to the Master Blend freezer room for storage (until we return them), and I threw away more Jacobhouse construction refuse.
TIL: Today I tried a “Meader” persimmon at the farmers’ market, and therefore, I learned what it tasted like. If I were to describe the flavor, it would be something akin to a cross between a very sweet peach and a tomato, and interestingly enough, that is also what it looks and feels like.
Commentary: With every box of construction supplies and every additional finishing touch, Jacobhouse is appearing and feeling more and more like home each day. I would include more highlights, but the first line pretty much summarizes today’s general sentiment. That, and I have an acorn squash cooking in the oven for dinner, so I must expedite this section.
Here’s a bonus video to make amends for the brevity of this post:
Final Note: Tomorrow, I plan on continuing to clean out all unneeded supplies, and I will also begin the process of finishing the front door’s interior. To add to this, I will start keeping a list of various living supplies that I should probably collect before moving in to Jacobhouse.
*Had to shim the bottom and the top of the spacer board to ensure that there was not a large gap… akin to the sort that is sometimes found in public restroom stalls.
