2/9/2019:
Building Summary: Today was yet another day of planning and preparation. I started off the morning by clearing away the area where I will be building the closet-wall between the bedroom and office, and after that (and some Belgian Blue shenanigans), I began drawing up plans and measurements for the closet-space. This wall (Wall #5) will mainly be used for a pull-out wardrobe, but there will also be shelving space on the north side – a good place for books and a nighttime glass of water. As a final task for the morning, and with Padre’s help, I toted four 2x6s to Jacobhouse.
Commentary: It was a busy morning today with a few unexpected interruptions and lots of board lugging, but I’m still quite satisfied with how it went. I got a lot of planning done.
The first and more ridiculous part of the morning was the Belgian Blue shenanigans. We’d put a cow (named Big Blue or #273 depending on who you talk to) in a special pen because the other day we found her blocked up with feed crammed all the way down her esophagus. Fortunately, we were able to evacuate that clog, and she has been doing quite well ever since.
That last fact was proven even moreso when, as I was walking back to Jacobhouse, I saw the big beast scratching her ample bovine buttocks upon the fence dividing her lot from my previously pictured ‘neighbors’. Alas, the fence that she was abusing happened to be a cobble-board structure of what must be twenty to thirty years of age, and the next thing I knew, there was a loud crack, and the top board was on the ground. Big Blue didn’t stop there, though. She commenced to ‘walk’ over the wire portion of the fence, bending it all out of shape.
With Padre’s and Wag’s help, we recaptured her, contained her (or so we thought), and fixed the fence. I went back to work at Jacobhouse then, but a brief time later I saw Wag running past my front door. I went out to check what was happening, and sure enough, Big Blue had escaped once more. This time, we let her have her way, and put her into the lot right by Jacobhouse, and once we had, she ran straight to the feed trough where she commenced to feast upon the ‘normal’ feed. So, it turns out that she was simply tired of her protein bucket.
The second highlight for this morning is a tad less ridiculous, and a little more productive. It was my discovering what I’d do with the closet-wall. Originally, I had no idea how I was going to utilize such a long narrow space to store my clothing, but after a brief phone search through ‘narrow closets’ on Google images, I found the solution: a pullout closet. It will be about 20″ wide (internal dimension of 17″ so I can hang my shirts up), and about 30″ long (so there are a couple inches of space between the end of the opened closet and the south wall of Jacobhouse). The remaining 15-or-so inches of wall toward the north will be devoted to shelving both on the bedroom and the office side.
Tomorrow, I will begin the framing process for the fifth and second-to-last wall.
