Framing for below the toilet and vanity in Jacob's container home.

Andante non troppo e molto maestoso.

1/19/2019:

Building Summary: Today I measured the appliances’ (and toilet’s) true dimensions to make sure they would all fit in their corresponding places. I also measured, planned, and cut the boards for the raised up portion in the bathroom for the toilet and vanity sink.

Commentary: Some days I work on Jacobhouse and it feels like a slow process. First, I measure a space. Then, I measure what needs to fit in that space. Planning comes next. I’ve found that the best way to plan is to draw up multiple figures and choose the finest one of the batch. After the best plan has been chosen, it’s time to get the lumber, measure it out, and draw my measurements. The cutting of the lumber comes last – a climax whose duration is often no more than 10 percent of the time taken by the prior steps.

But let me return to the topic of ‘slowness’.

It wasn’t until I was working on the container (b)log entry for today that I recalled a far better term for my lack of speed. This thought came to me when, on the music playlist I listen to, “Concerto in bminor” by Peter Tchaikovsky began to play. I’ve been learning to play the song on the piano over the past five or so weeks, and at the start of the song, the tempo is set at andante non troppo e molto maestoso. Slow, but not too slow, and in a very dignified manner. OR as the arrangement I play dictates; Deliberately, but not too slowly.

Perhaps, I’m not building slowly so much as I am deliberately. This sounds better, at least.
