A brother’s departure.

2/26/2020

(Above: Wagyu patties from two different animals – a taste test partaken of for today’s lunch by Padre, my brother, and myself.)

Active Summary: This day began with the morningly regimen of calisthenics, checking the beef herd, and writing. This was followed by canceling my Centurylink and Sprint accounts. Afterward I departed for the outdoors where I commenced to work on Madre’s workshop for about 1.75 hours (with Padre for part of the time). During that time I wired a dual outlet, Padre attached hoses to the sink, we glued on the hose attachments for the washing machine, and we fastened the entire pipe-amalgam in place via conduit clamps*. To complete the morning, we harvested greens for lunch before heading up to Oldhouse.

(7:18 PM Update:) After a delicious lunch of Wagyu burger-steaks / salad, and after seeing my brother off on his expedition westward, I returned to Jacobhouse where I began to write this entry. Midway through, I tended to a Master Blend beef customer and then returned indoors where I rested for a brief time before venturing back outside to help with cattle-related activities. Following a few hours out in the rain and mud, I am now back in the Jacobhouse where I am presently writing this entry before ordering a case for my new phone along with a couple other miscellaneous articles for the Jacobhouse kitchen that will soon be seeing much more use**.

(10:30 PM Update:) I have just returned for a little evening visit with Padre and Madre. I ate the food depicted below, and afterward went through the remaining articles in Oldhouse that I will be bringing down to Jacobhouse. It turns out that I will not be needing to purchase clothing for quite a long time.

TIL: Today I learned that Visible will work as my internet and telephone service provider. I get roughly 4-7 mbps where Centurylink hovered at 4-5 and upward of 2-3 mbps upload where Centurylink’s was 0.7-0.9.

Commentary: This afternoon my brother departed for his new life in Seattle, which, if I am not mistaken, is the farthest large city from Florida as possible within the continental United States. Saying this, he is still no more than a 6 or 7 hour flight away. That’s a fine thing about the world today. An individual may live thousands of miles away, yet if so willing, you can reach that individual in less than a day…. That’s how I console myself at least.

I’m going to miss cooking my brother delectable treats at night, but I look forward to hearing tales of the city in which he is staying and of the shenanigans – both the fun ones and not so fun ones – that he’s bound to get into. OH, and the food. I anticipate hearing of his forays into the culinary… In such a city as Seattle, I imagine one has access to all the ingredients and all the cuisines that could ever be desired. It’s going to be a tremendous experience for him, and I do believe that I may be making my way out there within the next few months.

Final Note: Tomorrow morning I will likely be writing and working more on Madre’s workshop.

*I wrapped the CPVC beneath these clamps with electrical tape for added protection versus jostling (an inevitability when it comes to turning water on/off).

**I believe that I only have two more evenings of cooking at Oldhouse before it passes into the hands of another family. Hopefully, they find even more enjoyment there than Padre, Madre, my brother, and myself have.
