Active Summary: This morning began with writing, a beef pasture check, and calisthenic exercises. After the initial regimen, I decided it was time to feed Doug and to bake a cake for Madre. I did not have many ingredients, but I found a recipe yesterday evening (here) that required only eggs, sugar, salt, and flour. I followed the directions pretty thoroughly, only including the addition of ¾ cup chocolate powder and subtracting a tad bit of flour (substituting dry-for-dry), and the cake turned out quite well.
Whilst the creation baked, and after pulling it out 25 minutes later, I wrote. This was ensued by my venturing down to the farm market where I procured the weekly fruits and vegetables. On returning home, I put the produce away and made lunch. For Padre and myself, I cooked a couple baked potatoes and two grilled Master Blend Blue-Limousin burgers, and for Madre I put together some terryaki-mushroom egg noodles garnished with a plenitude of green onion. In addition to all this, Padre made and Madre dressed a large garden / market salad.
(7:44 PM Update:) The first activity I tended to this afternoon was the frosting of Madre’s cake. I split the large piece of cake into three parts, stacked them (with a little bit of chocolate frosting between each layer), and then slathered that same frosting all over. I of course had to sample the icing to make certain it passed my standards. It did, though I do not know how it would be possible to be otherwise what with the ingredients of which it was comprised*. The beast-of-a-cake ended up being between 6-7 inches tall, the same width, and about 12 inches long.
After frosting the cake and presenting it to Madre, I took a brief rest and then ventured outdoors to help with bovine-related activities. These included the usual feeding, catching, aiding in a couple embryo transfers, and helping a couple special-case calves nurse. This was interspersed with a couple seltzer breaks and concluded with a beef pasture check. I have since returned to Jacobhouse, worked on Master Blend correspondence, and cut up a gigantic watermelon.
Final Note: Dinner is going to be watermelon (more of it), and if Madre feels inclined – she probably will – a piece of the cake I made for her earlier in the day.
*It was comprised of 3/4 pounds of butter, ¾ stick of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, and 2 cups coconut sugar (I had no other sugar), 3/4 cup cocoa powder, and 1/3 can of coconut cream (I had no other cream that would have loosened the mixture enough to make it spreadable).
Great cake and I think it’s going to be her sixth calf that’s soon to arrive
