Building Summary: Today I initiated the morning by attempting to tighten the water heater’s lefthand brass fitting which was still beading a little bit of water. This exacerbated the problem, leading to a full-on leak. I next commenced to turn the water off, take apart the fitting, remove the tape, retape, and reapply the brass piece. It still leaked a tad, so I thought we were going to have to go back down to Sparr and get an entire extension*. Fortunately, before we went, I decided to tighten it a bit more, and it actually stopped leaking.
This was followed by putting together my first cupboard. It was a simple task, and Padre arrived just in time to show me how I could use a hammer and woodblock to straighten out the edges (allowed the pieces to fit together even more perfectly than they already were). The first impression is that building the cupboards will be a simple task.
Commentary: I’m going to be honest**, it was not a pleasant start at Jacobhouse this morning. It was rather cold and cloudy as I rode down, and the first hour of my time in the container home was spent attempting to stop a leak caused by a defective water outlet fitting (during which I also found that the blue valve leading to the future washer/dryer was defective). Fortunately, as the grey clouds began to clear, so did my morning.
Granted, I’m still not pleased about needing to replace the little blue valve, but I did manage to get the water heater’s brass connection to stop leaking, and after that, I was finally able to begin working on the kitchen cupboards. The lattermost bit was where the morning actually became fun, because the initial cabinet fit together like a LEGO set. Well. Maybe not that perfectly, but it was impressive how easy it went together, especially after I used Padre’s ‘hammer & wood block’ strategy to ensure all the edges were flush. I look forward to more of this sort of activity tomorrow morning.
Final Note: Tomorrow I shall continue with cupboard building activities. The next two to be assembled will be another 30″ and then a 15″ wall-mounted cupboard.
*Something that would allow us to bypass the defective outlet on the heater.
**I’d say that I’m usually honest when writing these posts, but this morning’s shenanigans warranted an extra bit of emphasis.
Two steps forward, even with one step back, is still progress. I looked back at your post from 30 days ago and find much had happened since then.
