Building Summary: Today I finished flooring the closet-space between the kitchen and bathroom. This was followed by my adding additional support beneath the postern shower plank, and then by my taking up every piece of plywood and drawing marks to show where I would be putting in screws. To finish off the morning, I fastened the ‘privy plank’ in place and began to do the same for the southeastern piece.
Commentary: This morning was a tad tough at Jacobhouse. I injured my thumb yesterday while fixing my Segway, and today it was extremely tender. Every motion of the digit was a throb, and every bump a notable discomfort. As for the time that I accidentally tapped the very tip of that tortured appendage with a hammer… Oh-hoh, the sheer intensity of ensuing sensation was enough to actually make me laugh.
But that’s enough about my slight handicap. Though slightly slowed, I did progress today at Jacobhouse. The closet-floor is now in place, as is the toilet board. Out of all my activities though, I’d have to say that the adding of support beneath the shower plank was the greatest highlight. All it consisted off was a horizontal 1′ length of 2×6 and 1×6 (one fastened atop the other) and a vertical 7″ 2×6. This bit of frame was fastened to the final pipe lift*, and though the difference in sturdiness was not too noticeable, it grants me peace of mind knowing that there is that much more supporting the shower plank.
Final Note: I will continue fastening down the bathroom floorboards tomorrow (likely at an increased rate due to the drawn guidelines), and I also intend to hook up the hot water heater so I can be certain of all my waterlines’ integrity before I place appliances atop the floorboards**.
* Boards laid across and fastened to the container floor in rising succession to create the required ¼” slope per foot required for a sewer line.
** Half of my water lines remain untested at the moment because water needs to flow through the tankless heater before reaching them.
