Final Note: This is a draft of the conversation from which the epigraphs for one of the POVs in my book. An epigraph is a quote found at the beginning of a chapter, and this counts as nine – enough for part one of book one for one PoV. Dividers have been added to distinguish between chapters, but the conversation is whole.

“With all due respect, Grand Physic, your theories are based solely in a finite realm, and so long as they neglect the region of Mind, I feel you are limiting yourself.”

“I, too, believed that for a time. I believed it to such an extent that I insisted on the union between Physics and Philosophy. With experience, however, I came to realize we live in an Phyiscal sphere whose laws we cannot help but adhere to. Only through intense study of these laws will we be able to bend and possibly break them to our benefit.”

“I agree with much of what you have just said, Grand Physic, but—”

“For the sake of all that is Substance, just call me Bhairav; you have more than earned the right.”

“Many thanks Bhairav;  I agreed with most of what you stated, but can you truly deny that Mind bears greater potential than Physic? It is only through Mind that we may understand a concept such as infinity, and infinity by definition is greater than any real and natural number.”

“Yes, by definition, infinity is greater than any real and natural number. For this reason, many believe that the infinite is greater than the finite. In reality, however, infinity is less. Much less. It could even be stated that infinity holds no value at all within the Physic plane on account of the limitations it possesses—limitations that the finite naturally overcomes. Division, multiplication, addition, subtraction; all arithmetic bears meaning where the finite is concerned. Indeed, real meaning may only be found in the finite realm, for it is only within a realm of limitations that real values may be ascertained. Tell me; how can the infinite even begin compare to that?”

“I am not certain it can… but if it is value you are searching for, it must be wondered how the finite’s value would be determined were it not for its opposite.”

“If the finite has value, and infinity is finite’s opposite, then the infinite bears no value and your point is mute.”

“Via the law of opposites—”

“The Principle of Polarity is naught but conjecture and a concept so primitive that even the biologs have conceived of it.”

“Be that as it may, surely you cannot deny the fact that – at its basest level – the existential sphere is a binary system. Matter is or is not. Events either happen or they do not.”

“You speak of ones and zeros to a Physic. I understand ones and zeros. They are real values. Infinity is an imaginary value and therefore irrelevant.”

“But, truly, how far is zero from the concept of infinity? When multiplied, it results in itself. When divided… it cannot be divided by any real number. When subtracted or added to itself, it remains zero.”

“Zero does share some unique properties with the imaginary concept of infinity, but do not think for a moment that I failed to note the conditionals you inserted within your argument. It is true that zero results in zero when added and subtracted from itself. However, when you add or subtract any real number from zero, it results in a real number.”

“But by that logic, does infinity not bear similar attributes? It may not be quite as obvious, but it can be proven. Lemniscate (∞) plus one minus lemniscate (∞) equals one.”

“That is only true if your two infinities are of equal size – a coincidence of equally infinite and infinitesimal probability. In other words, a paradox. And if there is one thing upon which Physics and Philosophers may agree, it is the incomprehensible and therefore incompatible value of a paradox.”

“But hold a moment, Bhairav. Infinities can be larger and smaller than one another?”

“Conceptually, yes – one example being that discussion of the Eternal versus the Infinite of which you Philosophers are so fond. No matter which is larger though, the answer is going to be infinity. A grand lemniscate.”

“And if a larger lemniscate is subtracted from a smaller lemniscate?”

“Negative lemniscate.”

“So, if infinities actually can be added, subtracted, multiplied, and divided, and if they can bear values larger or smaller than other infinities while retaining the same value: infinity. Would that not make the lemniscate a numeral that is both of greater and lesser value than zero?”

“No, those are two separate integers: negative lemniscate and positive lemniscate. Both of which are imaginary.”

“Imaginary they may be, but would an imaginary positive lemniscate be greater than an imaginary negative lemniscate?”

“Obviously.”

“And how is that determined? How is that determined when they bear no value?”

“Hm, perhaps you misunderstood me. Infinity bears no value on a scale of real numbers, just as it bears no value in the realm of Physic. Only on a scale of the imaginary—the conceptual—can infinity bear value.”

“The conceptual—that which exists in idea, correct?”

“Correct.”

“As compared to the real—that which exists in reality?”

“Also correct.”

“… and cipher being the soil from which both sprout.”

“Pardon?”

“Bhairav, we may have discovered the axis.”

“Oh, for the sake of all that is Substance, what are you speaking of now?”

“Zero. Not the value, but the absence of value itself. It is something upon which both the Physics and the Philosophers may fully agree. Zero is the point from which all perception and thought extends, verifying that both the real and imagined bear a value that true and absolute oblivion does not.”
