4/1/19:
Building Summary: Today started off with my setting up the FedEx freight appointment for the RTA cabinets and my meeting the driver at the farm. Padre and Wag ended up helping him unload as I departed to go on a supply run with Madre. In town, we obtained a pocket door slab, cement backer-board for behind / under the shower, single-gang bracket boxes, pressure-washer fluid, and oil-based primer (the latter two being for the soon-to-be painted Jacobhouse) .
Commentary: Today was a biathlon* of waiting. First, there was the call at 8:50 AM about a FedEx freight truck soon arriving with the cabinet shipment – this, after I told the schedulers to arrange the delivery for as late in the day as possible. The driver said he’d be 30 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 50. That was understandable, though, due to school traffic. It was the second leg of waiting at Home Depot that was downright ridiculous: 1 hour and 30 minutes spent on obtaining an order they already had packed and ready to go.
But enough of that. Writing about waiting is almost as enjoyable as the act itself. I will now admit that today did have its high points. A prime example would be that Madre and I stopped at Sushi Bistro on our way out of Ocala. There, we obtained lunch for everyone: beef and pork bento-boxes for Madre and my brother (respectively) and twelve rolls of sushi for Padre and I. My favorite rolls were the salmon, yellowtail, and eel & avacado with the yellowtail being made especially delectable due to the small amount of green onion they wrap up with it.
Afternoon Update: I checked the cabinets that came in for any signs of damage, and found that they were almost all in fine condition. There was only one piece with a ding on the corner, so I’m presently in the process of composing a short email to Custom Service Hardware, asking them what I should do about it. At this point in time, it looks like their solution will either be a complete replacement or a touch-up kit. Either will work.
Final Note: Tomorrow I will be mounting the electrical boxes we just obtained from Home Depot, and after that, threading wires into those boxes and stripping off their outer sheathing. Then, if there is still time, I’ll use cable staples to neaten up the closet-wall’s wiring.
Additional Note: Today is the last chance to vote on Master Blend in the FedEx business grant contest. Thanks for the all support over the past month. Here is the link one last time.
*Not the sort that occurs in the Winter Olympics. That type is much different and far more interesting – an event that concerns skiing and rifle shooting. I was slightly skeptical when I read it, too, but here’s the Wikipedia article.
