(Above: A sampling of about 50% of the Pierogis that Aneta’s festival had to offer. They were accompanied by a delicious Kielbasa sausage, cabbage salad, and bacon-spread-bread.)
Summary: Today began with bedding removal / washing, calisthenics, piano practice, writing a small amount, and hanging that first load of bedding out to dry*. This was ensued by my venturing outdoors to perform the day’s first beef pasture inspection with Padre. I next returned to Jacobhouse and wrote for the remainder of the morning while periodically switching out bedding loads and hanging the blankets out front.
At 11:41 AM, Padre, Madre, and I rode to Aneta’s Bistro where they were hosting a Pierogi Festival. There, I was able to experience a great variety of Polish noodles stuffed with quite a variety of fillings, including: sauerkraut, spinach, pork, mushroom, sauerkraut & mushroom, sauerkraut & bacon, kielbasa & mashed potato, cheddar & jalapeno, bacon & horse radish, chorizo & rice, buffalo chicken, and salmon & farmer cheese (the best). These pierogis were accompanied by plentiful cabbage salad as a side and by a Napoleon-like custard-filled pastry for dessert. It was a unique and delectable repast.
(6:49 PM Update:) Afternoon activities were initiated with some school reading, rest, and working on an assignment**. This was ensued by my stepping into the oven outside of Jacobhouse. There, I helped with myriad cattle tasks which included the typical along with a couple not-so-typical, the latter including: chasing some escaped beef cows back into the feed barn and transporting a calf from the pasture to a shaded lot via towing a wheelbarrow while driving a Segway. A seltzer break was followed by a return to Jacobhouse where I cut up two watermelons before writing this entry.
Final Note: On account of this day’s satiating lunch, I will likely ‘only’ have watermelon, greens, and a little bit of ice-cream for dinner.
*My primary reason for choosing this day, is because the weather is going to be (and already is) quite hot and dry. That, and the next 9 days of forecasted weather possess between 50% and 80% chance of rain.
** I had to choose a favorite brand for the assignment, and it was during this exercise that I realized the only place where I ever truly look for branding is in the food sector. The brand I ended up selecting was King Arthur Flour, as it is somehow noticeably better than any other flour I have ever cooked with. It turns out that the company has been selling flour since 1790 (first flour company in the USA).
I think that flour company is now owned by its employees, if I remember correctly.
