Entry frame extension fastened in place within Jacob's container home.

Entry extended.

2/18/19:

Building Summary: Today I started off by using a spade bit to ‘chew’ out a few small sections of wood so electrical wiring could pass behind the entry frame extension. This was followed by my adding a 2×6 separator board to shelf #1 that divides the storage section from the space meant for the light switches. Next, I measured, cut, and fastened some 2x4s that were/are currently being used to hold the frame extension in place (included some insulation cutting). The morning was concluded when, with Padre’s help, I brought in the frame extension, set it in place, and lightly fastened it in.

Commentary: Today was another productive work day*, and I must say that the result (pictured above) is quite satisfying. I do have a couple primary highlights, though, aside from the nicely fitted woodcraft.

The first occurred quite early on when Padre gave me an idea in regard to making enough room behind the entry extension for electric cords to pass into the ‘side-space’. Indeed, it was he that suggested utilizing the spade (drill)bit. Being a 1 and ½” bit and rarely used, it chewed away a ½” of wood quite quickly, and I had all three notches done within five minutes. It was a simple and quite efficient solution.

The second highlight occurred after Padre and I fastened the frame extension into place. That was the first time I actually got to see what I had been working on over the past couple of days (i.e. I was able to stand back and take a long look at the frame as a fixture rather than as something that could potential fall over onto the kitchen’s pipe system). There is plenty of space on the sill for a little basil plant, and the shelves – 5 ½” deep – will provide plenty of storage. Granted, the portable air-condition will be in front of them, but storage is storage where I’m concerned.

A table littered with various cutting and measuring paraphernalia.
This is why we must have cleaning days.

Final Note: Tomorrow I will put more screws into the frame extension, because there are only about three holding it in place at the moment. I also plan on doing some more electrical planning (Day 3?), but first I must attend to the clutter that has built up in Jacobhouse over the past week.

*But there’s bound to be more planning soon!
