More planning (and delicious sandwiches).

2/8/2019:

Building Summary: Today was a cleaning and planning day. I started off by tidying up the mess I left behind whilst gluing together the CPVC and conduit piping. After that, I picked up and put away all the random pieces of blocking that had somehow migrated out of their red bucket, and I neatened up the back portion of Jacobhouse where all the building supplies are stored. Finally, after everything was somewhat orderly, I began planning the location for the bedroom separator wall. (Also got some ideas from Padre on how to make the back doors – the heavy ones – openable and closeable from the inside… That’s a project for later on, though.)

Commentary: Despite being a planning day, Jacobhouse was a happening place this morning. The first shenanigan occurred as I was folding up the sailshade that had become unraveled when I went to move it to a better spot. My original intention was to fold it and roll it up nice and neatly while still remaining inside. This changed, however, after a flood of spiders ran out of the shade. They weren’t small spiders, either. They were fat, egg-laden wolf spiders, and being that it was still a little cool at the time, they were quite clumsy in their movements. One almost ended up falling into my boot. Almost. Needless to say, I dragged the shade outside and folded it there where the spiders could freely run away without crawling on me.

The second highlight occurred during the morning’s planning phase. I had already determined that the next step was putting in the fifth wall between the bedroom and office area (namely because it would be a good spot to bring wiring up to the ceiling for extra lighting). However, Padre gave me a good idea. Instead of just having a divider wall, I could put in a mini-closet. With that storage space along with the drawers beneath the bed, I should be able to forgo procuring and/or building a wardrobe. That, and I will also be able to keep the entire alleyway on the south side of Jacobhouse free of any and all obstruction.

The third and final highlight for the day didn’t have much to do with Jacobhouse… that is, except for the individual it happened to (yes, it’s another one of those). This highlight occurred in the evening and consisted of my putting together, cooking, and eating delicious prosciutto sandwiches. The ingredients on these sandwiches include: 3 oz. Del Duca® Prosciutto, 2.5-3 oz. havarti/mozzarella cheese, 4-5 sliced cherry tomatoes, ~10 fresh picked basil leaves,  ½ loaf (8″ piece) Cuban bread, 3 tbsp. balsamic vinaigrette (1 tbsp. De Nigris balsamic vinegar, 2 tbsp. California olive oil, and 1 crushed clove garlic), and fresh ground salt & pepper. We do not have a sandwich press, but that’s no problem. I instead wrapped the sandwiches in tin foil and crushed them between two cast iron skillets on low/medium (4) heat. The cooking took ~ four minutes a side, and then I let them rest for a couple minutes before unwrapping them (a good time to get together a small spring mix salad and pull beer out of the freezer!). As for how it tasted… it must be experienced to truly comprehend the deliciousness. The best description I can manage is that the crunchy, toasted outside is juxtaposed by the gooey cheese, fragrant basil, and savory prosciutto on the inside. Delectable.
