Preparing for adventure.

Active Summary: After this day’s early-morning regimen, I returned to Jacobhouse where I wrote for about 30 minutes before performing the weekly cleaning of my abode. This was ensued by abundant macroeconomics schoolwork and then by my venturing up to Oldhouse where I made some homemade fettuccine noodles and some Alfredo sauce to go along with them.

(6:50 PM Update:) Afternoon activities have thus far included: farm tasks (vaccinations, feeding, and health checks), more Macroeconomics work, packing shenanigans, harvesting arugula for dinner this evening, and writing this entry.

  • Arugula row.
  • Pigweed growing from the grass-chopper.
  • A curious bovine.

TIL: Today I learned how to make a very simple yet delicious Alfredo sauce.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 clove freshly minced garlic
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. freshly ground black pepper

The method to go with these ingredients was also quite straightforward:

  1. Heat butter and cream until melted in a small pot.
  2. Add in garlic as soon as butter and cream begins to simmer and allow it to continue simmering for 30 seconds.
  3. Take off of stovetop, and then while it is still hot, slowly incorporate the parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.
  4. Pour mixture onto noodles and stir it in until every noodle is coated. Then, allow the noodles to sit (while covered) for about 5 minutes.
  5. Unveil the delicious noodles and enjoy!

Additional Notes: I reserved about ½ cup of hot noodle water to incorporate into the noodles and allow for a lighter dressing. However, if one wants a thicker Alfredo sauce, they can forgo this step.

Commentary: As is likely to be expected, today is the primary packing day. ‘Primary packing day’ consists of my reviewing a list that I’ve been keeping for over two weeks, gather all the objects of import together, and then cram almost all of it into a single roller-duffel bag. Though… cramming is a bit of an overstatement, especially with the recent emergence of Airbnb. Airbnb has made an enormous difference in the phenomenon of ‘packing enough clothes’, because almost every place one stays is equipped with a functioning washer/dryer. This means that instead of packing a whole month’s worth of clothing, I am more liable to pack 4-5 day’s worth.

As far as highlights go, the noodles I made earlier were superb both in the flavor and texture categories. Alas, I was too busy consuming them to capture an image, so here is a picture of the fantastic dinner I made this evening instead:

Burger steak, home bread, and home grown arugula with melted gruyere on top.
Dinner this evening: a home-grown Angus burger served with home-grown arugula and homemade bread. Dressed in a buttery Merlot deglaze.

Final Note: Tomorrow morning, I plan spending more time outdoors, perhaps weeding the garden and tending to the broken piece of fence that remains of yesterday’s red cow #326 shenanigans (this latter bit has already been tended to as of the 6:50 PM Update). There will also likely be an early blog entry tomorrow, seeing as my brother and I are leaving for the airport probably around 4-4:30 PM. After that, I suppose the next update will probably come from Paris. Strange.
