Beginning stages of painting the freezer room.

Rolled Orange.

(Above: Beginning stages of painting the freezer room. I still need to brush the corners where the walls/ceiling meet.)

Active Summary: This morning began with creative writing and a beef pasture check. These activities were ensued by painting preparations where I: taped around both northwest doors, moved the west freezers out from the wall, unfastened the western outlet/light pole (for full wall access), taped around the east inner-window and the south window, and then opened and stirred the paint for about 15 minutes* before beginning the oranging. I painted for the remainder of the morning, coating the majority of each wall excepting the small one which is home to the southeast door .

(6:10 PM Update:) Afternoon activities consisted of checking calves for ailments, feeding calves, feeding cows, and tending to the garden for about 30 minutes. A beef pasture check ensued, and now I am back in Jacobhouse – clean and refreshed.

  • More painting.
  • The freezers and post that I had to move this morning.

TIL: Today I learned that young, broad-leafed broccoli plants are edible. Actually, I would say that they are more than edible; they are tremendously tender and provide a delicate cabbage-like flavor. This goes both for fresh (as I tried it today) or cooked leaves, which is fortunate, because I have not been looking forward to thinning the broccoli**.

Commentary: When it comes down to it, painting is a simple exercise that imparts large results. The only difficulty that comes with the task is the preparation, and those are usually not so much difficult as they are tedious. Fortunately, I had already performed a majority of those preliminaries two or three days ago – that, and the freezer room is not the fanciest of atmospheres (I can still see paint on the floor from when it was last coated many years ago). I suppose what I mean to say is that there was plenty of free-rolling this morning, and the result of that freedom was surprisingly bright and pleasant to look upon.

Painting really is a simple way to make old construction look better.

  • No pets in the house!
  • Released lizard on the Jacobhouse screen door.

Final Note: Tomorrow, I intend to finish the first coat of ‘brushed orange’ and then to start utilizing a brush to cover any areas I could not reach with the roller.

*I maybe should have utilized the drill / concrete mixing attachment to stir the paint, and I maybe would have if I had know that the stirring would take so long!

**It always seems a tad cruel to plant something, allow it to grow, and then pluck it simply because too many were sewn.
