Final Note: Epigraph for Grimorzak’s final chapter – CH19 – in Book 2, To Lands Beyond. Perhaps we’ve finally found out why Pliok favors paper so much?

Today I was talking to our papryophile of the most recent developments on CPE072. Apparently, the biologs have got it in their heads to control the weather again. Or attempt doing so, that is. The results are pending, but it’s difficult to bear hope when we have 177 documented repetitions showing the myriad catastrophes that result of such endeavors and none to show the merit. And that’s not even counting our own attempts at the hubris.

...All beside the point, Keona. I was amidst asking him, ‘What are the odds these ones will know when to stop before it’s too late?’ when I was suddenly struck by another query along a somewhat similar line. I pointed to all his journals. You know how many he has. And I asked him; ‘Pliok? How in Origin’s name do you know when it’s time to stop? When is it time to end one journal and begin the next?’

His essence blinked, and he gave me a look like it was the most obvious answer in the Sphere; ‘When I run out of room, of course.’

It was a far simpler response than I had hoped, and he must have noted my sentiment – my admitted disappoint – for he went on to sweep that dissatisfaction away with a brief explanation;

‘You see, Guiuth, finitude is a gift, and a physical journal bears that gift as naturally as our biolog subjects. By taking the guesswork out of when or how or where to initiate and terminate, it frees an enlightened author to fill the pages from cover to cover with as much meaningful content and meaningful content as may fit.’

- High Metallurgist Guiuth to Historian Keona, after a visit to High Physic Pliok

  1. Very interesting week on several levels, definitely appreciate the concept of “content,” hadn’t really thought about it in that context before, very much agree and appreciate the insight.
