5/11/2025: Today began in the mid-60s (dry, USA) and warmed into the mid 80s (humid, DR).
On the morning of May 11, 2025, my mother took us (my father and I) to the airport. En la mañana del 11 de mayo de 2025, mi madre nos llevó (mi padre y yo) al aeropuerto. 
Security didn’t take long. A little later, we were enjoying some drinks while waiting for our flight. La seguridad no tomó mucho tiempo. Un poco después estábamos disfrutando unas bebidas mientras esperábamos el vuelo. 
Breakfast: Two loquat puff pastries and a little more Diet Pepsi. El desayuno: Dos hojaldres de níspero y un poco más de Pepsi Light. 
Seven hours after leaving, we arrived at Impressive. Our lunch consisted of chicken fajitas, potatoes, and fish. Light but delicious. Siete horas después de salir, hubimos llegado a Impressive. Nuestro almuerzo consistía en fajitas de pollo, papas y pescado. Ligero pero delicioso. 
While we waited for the room, I took care of some “office stuff” and writing. Mientras esperábamos el cuarto, me encargué de unas “cosas de la oficina” y escritura. 
Later, it was time to swim. Más tarde, llegó la hora de nadar.

First, I had a very large salad drizzled with a chopped bell pepper vinaigrette. Primero, comí una ensalada muy grande rociada con una vinagreta de pimientos picados. 
The main course: Goat stew accompanied by roasted vegetables. How delicious! El plato principal: Guiso de chivo acompañado de vegetales asados. Que rico!
5/12/2025: Today began in the mid 70s and warmed into the high 80s. Slightly rainy in the morning, sunny toward noon and afternoon.

In the afternoon, while my father and I played cards in the lobby, my father drank a Cosmopolitan. En la tarde, mientras mi padre y yo jugábamos a las cartas en el lobby, mi padre bebía un Cosmopolitan. 
Dinner at the Olive Tree restaurant: The first course consisted of a shrimp cocktail that had a slightly spicy and sweet sauce. Cena en el Restaurante Olive Tree: El primer plato consistía en un cóctel de camarones que tenía una salsa un poco picante y dulce. 
The main course was sautéed chicken accompanied by rice cooked in a seafood broth. El plato principal fue pollo salteado acompañado de arroz cocinado en un caldo de mariscos. 
Dessert was chocolate cake. The flavor reminded me of the round birthday cakes from my childhood. El postre consistía en pastel de chocolate. El sabor me recordó de los pasteles de chocolate (round birthday cakes) de mi niñez.

5/13/2025: Today began in the high 70s and warmed into the 90s. Quite sunny.

This morning, thanks to the good weather, Padre and I visited the pier twice. Esta mañana, gracias al buen tiempo, mi padre y yo visitamos el muelle dos veces.

Lunch: Stewed chicken with rice, black beans, plantain chips, and salad. Very tasty and a bit light. El almuerzo: Pollo guisado acompañado de arroz, frijoles negros, chips de plantano y ensalad. Muy sabroso y un poco ligero. 
My dad lost his snorkel in the ocean, so we bought this tube from a man named Israel for $5. Mi padre perdió su snorkel en el oceano, así que compramos este tubo a un hombre llamado Israel por 5 dolares. 
This afternoon, the water was still very blue but there was also a lot of seaweed. Esta tarde, el agua todavía era muy azul pero también había muchas algas. 
Para la cena mi padre y yo comimos en un restaurante Méxicano. El primer plato fue sopa de tortilla. Me recordó de la sopa de tortilla en Taxco pero con un poco menos profundidad de sabor. For dinner, Padre and I ate at a Mexican restaurant. The first course was tortilla soup. It reminded me of the tortilla soup in Taxco, but with a little less depth of flavor. 
The main course consisted of beef, mushroom, and pepper fajitas accompanied by mashed beans and a little rice. El plato fuerte consistía en fajitas de res, hongos y pimientos acompañados de puré de frijoles y un poco de arróz. 
This is a slice of tres leches cake topped with a piece of white chocolate. It was quite sweet but very tasty. Este es un trozo de pastel de tres leches coronado con un pedazo de chocolate blanco. Era bastante dulce pero muy sabroso.
5/14/2025: Today began in the mid 70s and warmed into the low 90s. Quite humid.
A morning activity on May 14, 2025: Padre and I played cards while drinking Diet Coke and eating nuts. Una actividad matutina del 14 de mayo de 2025: Mi padre y yo jugamos a cartas mientrás bebíamos Coca Lite y comíamos nueces.

Later in the morning my father and I played chess in the cantina near the sea. Mas tarde en la mañana mi padre y yo jugamos al ajedrez en la cantina cerca del mar.

Dessert: A slice of tiramisu. I could taste the coffee. El postre: Un trozo de tiramisú. Podía saborear el café.
5/15/2025: Today began in the mid 70s and warmed into the low 90s. Quite humid.
A morning activity on 5/15/2025: My dad and I played cards while drinking Coca Cola Lite and eating walnuts. Una actividad matutina del 15/5/2025: Mi padre y yo jugamos a cartas mientrás tomábamos Coca Lite y comíamos nueces. 
Breakfast: A coconut puff pastry accompanied by Santo Domingo coffee. Desayuno: Un hojaldre de coco acompañado de café Santo Domingo. 
This morning Padre and I watched as a ship was pushed out to sea by a large payloader. Esta mañana mi padre y yo miramos como un barco era empujado hacía el mar por un grande cargador util.

My favorite lunch dish: Two skewers of beef and peppers accompanied by roasted eggplant in tomato sauce. Mi plato favorito del almuerzo: Dos brochetas de res y pimientos acompañadas de berenjena asada en salsa de tomate. 
We didn’t swim this afternoon because of the heavy rain. Instead, we played cards and tried a new drink called “The Americano.” No nadamos esta tarde por la lluvias fuertes. En lugar de eso, jugamos a cartas y probamos una nueva bebida llamada “El Americano”. 
The first course: Gnocchi in pesto. El primer plato: Ñoquis en pesto. 
I had lasagna as my main course again. This time it was even better with more beef. Volví a comer lasaña como plato principal. Esta vez fue aún mejor con más carne de ternero. 
Dessert: Profiteroles. These consisted of dough balls filled with custard and covered with chocolate. El postre: Profiteroles. Consistía en unas bolas de masa rellenas con crema pastelera y cubierta con chocolate. 
At 9 p.m., my father and I went to the bar and played cards. We also experimented with a drink called “Paloma.” Although the woman who made it didn’t like it, it reminded me a lot of the palomas I drank in Taxco. One more note. The results for the card games today were 1100 to 1100. A las 9 en la noche, mi padre y yo fuimos a la cantina an jugamos a cartas. También experimentamos con una bebida llamada la “Paloma”. Aunque la mujer que la preparó la bebida no le gustó la bebida, me recordó mucho de las palomas que bebí en Taxco. Una nota más. Los resultados para los juegos de cartas hoy fue 1100 a 1100.
5/16/2025: Today began in the mid 70s and warmed into the mid 80s. Quite rainy in DR. Dry at home.
The morning of May 16, 2025. After swimming, Padre and I went to the pier to talk and look at the sea. La mañana del 16 de mayo de 2025. Después de nadar, mi padre y yo fuimos al muelle a conversar y mirar el mar.

There were a lot of people at Punta Cana airport yesterday, but the security process was pretty quick. Ayer había muchas personas en el aeropuerto de Punta Cana, pero el proceso de seguridad fue bastante rápido.

After Padre and I landed in Florida, Madre drove us home. Also, I would like to write here that she brought us some cans of chilled sparkling water in a new Master Blend bag. Thank you, Madre, they were truly refreshing! Después de que mi padre y yo aterrizamos en Florida, mi mamá nos llevó a casa. También, me gustaría escribir aquí que ella nos trajo unas latas de agua con gas enfriado en una nueva bolsa de Master Blend. Gracias, Mamá, las bebidas estaban bastante refrescantes. 
After 9.5 hours of travel, we arrived home. The pastures were much greener than before leaving for the Dominican Republic. Después de 9,5 horas de viaje, llegamos a casa. Los pastos eran muchos más verdes que antes de partir hacía República Dominicana. 
An evening activity: I set up the Master Blend store and the farm bathroom for the morning. I also took this photo for social media. It’s about the new bags we’ll be selling. Una actividad del atardecer: Preparé la tienda de Master Blend y el baño de rancho para la mañana. Además, tomé esta foto para las redes sociales. Se trata de las nuevas bolsas que vamos a vender. 
After setting up the tent and showering, I cooked dinner. Tonight we had a taco salad. This salad consisted of a bed of green cabbage topped with seasoned ground beef, salsa verde, cottage cheese, and tomatoes. Después de preparar la tienda y ducharme yo cociné la cena. Esta noche comimos una ensalada de taco. Esta ensalada consistía en un lecho de repollo verde cubierto con carne molida sazonada, salsa verde, requesón y tomates. 
And of course, after enjoying the main course, I had dessert: a sliced red apple sprinkled with cinnamon and accompanied by a dollop of Greek yogurt. Y por supuesto, después de disfrutar el plato principal, comí un postre: una manzana roja en rodajas espolvoreada con canela y acompañada de una cucharada de yogur griego.
5/17/2025: Today began in the mid 60s and warmed into the low 90s. Quite sunny.
Lunch on May 17, 2025, consisted of a fried mixture of eggs and seasoned beef. This mixture was accompanied by a green salad drizzled with a tangy vinaigrette. El almuerzo de 17 de mayo de 2025 consistía en una mezcla frita de huevos y carne de res sazonada. Esta mezcla estaba acompañada de una ensalada verde rociada con una vinagreta picante

This afternoon my father helped me trim the plate boards that support the Guesthouse’s roof. He lifted me up with the loader’s bucket, and I used a reciprocating saw to make the cuts. Esta tarde mi padre me ayudó a recortar las tablas que sostienen el techo de Guesthouse. Me levantó con la cubeta del cargador y yo utilicé una sierra recíproca para hacer los cortes.

Dinner consisted of a Belgian Blue sirloin tip roast. This roast was accompanied by a spring mix salad topped with two pieces of Swiss cheese. Padre and I also enjoyed some red wine. La cena consistía en un asado de punta de solomillo de azul belga. Este asado estaba acompañado de una ensalada de mezcla primaveral cubierta con dos trozos de queso suizo. Además, mi padre y yo disfrutamos de un poco de vino tinto. 
This is a thinly sliced red apple sprinkled with cinnamon and accompanied by a dollop of Greek yogurt. Esta es una manzana roja en rodajas delgadas espolvoreada con canela y acompañada de una cucharada de yogur griego.
Final Note: Both times I have gone to the Dominican Republic thus far, I have been drawn to the people’s love of country, food, and life. On both occasions, it, too, helped me arrive at some personal realizations which, at this time, I’ll keep for the privacy of my own journal entries. Here, I will simply state that it was a phenomenal adventure, that it has rekindled my interest in the Spanish language, and that I most certainly plan on going back.
