Lunch: Some scrambled eggs with chiltepin and mozzarella accompanied by a green salad made by Padre and dressed by Madre. El almuerzo: Unos huevos revueltos con chiltepin y mozzarella acompañados de una ensalada verde hecha por mi padre y aliñada por mi madre. (Mi padre hizo la ensalada y mi madre aliño la ensalada.) This afternoon, I took the cream from the surface of the fresh milk that I have had since Thursday. There were two and a half cups worth. Esta tarde, yo quité la crema de la superficie de la leche fresca que he tenido desde el jueves. Había dos tazas y media. Una nota: Hay no traducción directa para “worth” en este caso. 
The results: almost one pound of fresh butter the color of gold. Los resultados: casi una libra de mantequilla fresca de color dorado. 
Dinner consisted of a Wagyu Sirloin Tip roast. This beef was roasted in an oven of 265 degrees Fahrenheit for almost three hours, and after that, I seared it on a skillet outside of Jacobhouse. The beef was accompanied by homemade barbecue sauce, a little bit of mustard, and a little bit of fresh Wagyu butter. Also, there was a salad of red cabbage, green cabbage, olive, tomato, and cucumber in a spicy vinaigrette. La cena consistía en un asado de punta de lomo de Wagyu. Esta res estaba asada en un horno de 265 grados Fahrenheit por casi 3 horas, y después de eso, yo lo salteé en una sartén afuera de mi casita. La res estaba acompañada de salsa barbacoa casera, un poco de mostaza y un poco de mantequilla fresca de Wagyu. Además, había una ensalada de repollo rojo, repollo verde, aceituna, tomate y pepino en una vinagreta picante.

A piece of Gruntworks beefjerky that I tried on the afternoon of 10/31/2023. The texture was phenomenal, but the flavor was too salty for me. Un pedazo de cecina de Gruntworks que yo probé en la tarde del 31/10/2023. La textura estuvo fenomenal pero el sabor estaba demasiado salado para mí.

This morning (11/1/2023) I enjoyed a coffee with fresh cream. The flavor was excellent. It’s good that I don’t have fresh cream often or I’d gain weight. Esta mañana (1/11/2023) yo disfruté de un café con crema fresca. El sabor estuvo excelente. Es bueno que no tengo crema fresca a menudo o engordaría.

I made this pizza for the dinner of 11/1/2023. It consisted of a sourdough crust topped with homemade tomato sauce, Belgian Blue ground beef, mozzarella, red onion, green pepper, some sliced olives, and a little bit of olive oil and black pepper. Hice esta pizza para la cena del 1/11/2023. Consistía en una corteza de masa madre cubierta con salsa de jitomate casera, res molida de azul belga, mozzarella, cebolla roja, pimiento verde, unas aceitunas en rodajas, y un poco de aceite de oliva y pimienta negra.

For lunch, Padre and I ate a salad of romaine lettuce, green cabbage, red cabbage, sliced aovcado, Belgian Blue ground beef, a little bit of homemade barbecue sauce, and a little bit of homemade cream cheese. It was a unique salad, and it was delicious. Para almorzar, mi padre y yo comimos una ensalada de lechuga romana, repollo verde, repollo rojo, aguacate en rodajas, res molida de azul belga, un poco de salsa barbacoa casera y un poco de queso crema casero. Era una ensalada única y estaba deliciosa.

Lunch consisted of some scrambled eggs with chiltepin and mozzarella accompanied by a green salad made by Padre and dressed by Madre. El almuerzo consistía en unos huevos revueltos con chiltepin y mozzarella acompañados de una ensalada verde hecha por mi padre y aliñada por mi madre. 
This afternoon, I installed the purlins for the roof of the outdoor shower. Esta tarde, instalé las correas para el techo de la ducha afuera. 
The heifers and the steers were watching me while I was working. Las vacillas y los bueyes me estaban mirando mientrás yo estaba trabajando. 
A Belgian Blue burger-steak that was encrusted with coffee grounds & salt, roasted in an oven for 1 hour, and then seared in a skillet. This was topped with homemade butter and accompanied by a simple salad of arugula and romaine lettuce in a balsamic vinaigrette. To drink, I had red wine with the meal. Un bistec de res molida de azul belga que estaba incrustado con posos de café y sal, horneado por una hora, y entonces, sellado en una sartén. Este estaba cubierta con mantequilla casera y acompañada de una ensalada simple de rúcula y lechuga romana en una vinagreta balsámica. Para beber, tomé vino tinto con la comida.

The morning of 11/4/2023: A cow and her calf in the most southeastern pasture. The calf was nursing his mother. La mañana del 4/11/2023: Una vaca y su cría en el campo al más sureste. El ternerito estaba amamantando a su mamá.

Today, I enjoyed a small lunch. I did not eat much because I wanted to be hungry at Brimage’s barbecue party. Hoy, disfruté de un almuerzo pequeño. Yo no comí mucho porque quise a tener hambre en la fiesta barbacoa de Brimage.

This shed is Brimage’s smoker. He can cook many types of meat inside of this homemade invention. Esta cobertija es el ahumador (horno para ahumar) de Brimage. Él puede cocinar muchos tipos de carne dentro de esta invención casera. 
A plate of food that consisted of pork ribs, pork loin, and Wagyu chuck roast, all of which were smoked. Also, there was a little bit of collard greens and my homemade BBQ sauce. Un plato de comida que consistía en costillas de cerdo, lomo de cerdo y asado de hombro de wagyu, todos de cuales estaban ahumados. Además, había un poco de berzas y mi salsa barbacoa casera. 
Later, I ate a dessert. It consisted of a sliced red apple sprinkled with cinnamon and accompanied by a spoonful of Greek yogurt and some walnuts. Más tarde, yo comí un postre. Consistía en una manzana roja en rodajas espolvoreada con canela y acompañada de una cucharada de yogur griego y unas nueces.
Final Note: Gratitude is a state of being thankful. Appreciation is ongoing attention to value.
Here are two scenarios to show what I mean:
Scenario 1: As the first piece of crispy sourdough topped with cheese and a sauce of garlic and homemade butter touched the tip of her tongue, she was filled with gratitude for all that had gone into it.
Scenario 2: The man crept through the darkness with a bag full of beer cans, moving with care lest one might rattle and wake the sleeping Mexican. A snap and a sudden explosion of agony caused his prior pains to be for naught as the rat trap flew across the kitchen to clatter against the laundry room door. He stood there in the darkness for some moments, the silence punctuated by the click-click-click of a phantasmal pendulum. Only then, did he feel gratitude for his situation.
In the first situation, gratitude works, but in the second it makes no sense. Now let’s see how appreciation fits.

Both of these scenarios are valuable in their own ways, but gratitude only fits for situations and circumstances considered positive. Appreciation, on the other hand, allows one to value all situations.
Unusual week, certainly much to contemplate, such as your examples of the differences between gratitude and appreciation… very thankful to have this weekly reminder of all that goes on, it’s definitely appreciated
