1/17/2019:
Building Summary: Today I put up, leveled, and fastened in four of the six ‘shelf posteriors’ I cut yesterday. I also went with Padre and Wag to check for scrap lumber down at Sparr.
Commentary: It was quite chilly when I reached Jacobhouse this morning. There was a decent bit of frost on the front steps and a little bit on the deck. Fortunately, the major portion of my morning was spent indoors fastening the so-called ‘shelf posteriors’ I mentioned yesterday. The leveling and attachment process went easily excepting a little bit of difficulty in fastening the left side of each board. I discovered that by putting up the shelf holders in on the right side of the closet, I had blocked myself from fastening in the back shelf boards from that side. Fortunately, there is enough space between the front and the back boards that I could fasten them in through the front angle (actually used the pre-drilled holes I made yesterday for that left side even though they were initially intended for the right).
As for a morning highlight, there are certainly a couple to share. The first is related to the image below. For me to get the picture, I had to set up the camera while standing on the high floor of Jacobhouse bathroom. Then, after I had it set in place and hit the 10-second time button, I had to navigate my way over the 2x8s, around the right corner of wall #2, lay down on the kneeling pad I had laid out, and then bump my head as I leaned back to peak through the assembled shelf-supports into the camera’s lens.*
The second morning highlight actually came after I had departed Jacobhouse, for it was then that my family (Padre, Madre, and a certain brother) went out for lunch to Mesa de Notte, an Italian restaurant here in Ocala, FL. I would describe the entire meal, but such descriptions… well, I wrote about that in the last post. I’ll just state that the daily special – arugula salad with sweet peppers and fried calamari – was an amalgamation of flavors both unique and delicious.
*Only after looking at this picture on a full-sized computer screen did I realize that there was a 3-pound hammer positioned almost directly above my head.
That’s a ridiculous picture, made me laugh, and the lunch was indeed delicious.
