Taping Wall #6, and a frame within a frame.

Building Summary: Today I started off by finishing the stapling that I began yesterday. This was followed by my cutting out the RO portion of the bag plastic (made an ‘X’), fastening the resultant flaps inward with staples, and then trimming away all the excess both inside and out. Taping ensued, and after every corner and staple was properly sealed from bottom to top, Padre helped me install the sliding glass door frame (consisted of caulking, shimming, drilling, and fastening).

Commentary: A long while back when I read Walden (written by Henry David Thoreau), I remember a section of the book that he devoted to the concept of rising early. My point in bringing up this topic , is that I have endeavored and succeeded at rising much earlier than I previously was. Less than three years ago I was rising at 10:30 AM. Two years ago, I was rising at 8:30 AM. Now, I am getting out of bed a 6:30 AM. I’m certain some people will think that none of these times are early, but that isn’t what matters to me. What matters to me is that I’m pushing back the boundary of my most productive hours – the morning hours – and that I thoroughly enjoy the feeling I get from doing so.

A quote from Thoreau himself exemplifies that sentiment with perfection:  “When my floor was dirty, I rose early, and, setting all my furniture out of doors on the grass, bed and bedstead making but one budget, dashed water on the floor, and sprinkled white sand from the pond on it, and then with a broom scrubbed it clean and white; and by the time the villagers had broken their fast the morning sun had dried my house sufficiently to allow me to move in again, and my meditations* were almost uninterrupted.”

Final Note: Tomorrow I will finish shimming / fastening the sliding glass door frame. This will likely be followed by the installation of the actual glass and screen doors. (And if there is time after that, perhaps I’ll begin working on the shower drain.)

*Quiet, simple work is often a form of meditation in its own right.
