(Above: The assembled outer frame of Wall #6.)
Building Summary: Today I retrieved and cut a couple more 2x6s – these ones for the rough opening of the glass sliding doors – and I also began putting together the frame for Wall #6. This was followed by my opening up Jacobhouse’s postern (original) doors and finding / cutting the spacer boards onto which the whole of Wall #6’s frame will sit. The final task for the morning was ripping a 2×3 from a 2×8*.
Commentary: It was another productive morning at the container home today. Regrettably it was all ‘outside work’. This usually isn’t a problem, but the frame I was/am making is quite sizeable and forced me to stand just outside of the sail-shade’s protection. To add to the heat factor, I needed to work on those spacer-boards** mentioned in the building summary – a task that brought me to the back of Jacobhouse where there was not even a leaf or twig of shadow to be found. At one point, I looked up to see where the sun was, and it was only then that I realized it was directly over head.
Short story short, it was a toasty morning, and I’m now glad to be inside the A/C writing today’s entry.
Final Note: Tomorrow I will continue working on Wall #6’s frame, and perhaps with the help of Padre, move it into place by the morning’s end.
*This was the width required to fit the board between the end of the container floor-grate and the base of the original doors.
**I will admit to there being a fair bit of enjoyment when it came to my installing the furring-strip spacer. It was the exact width of a certain metal groove that needed filling, so I was able to tap it in with the 3-pound hammer. I say ‘tap’, but there were a couple stubborn parts where I had to expend a little more effort than that. Still, the final result exceeded satisfaction and will now provide my previously mentioned “3×2” with perfect height to match the reefer’s grated floor.
