(Above: The first straw of Gaur semen utilized on this farm… and likely in the entire state of Florida.)
Summary: Today began with usual regimen of calisthenics, neatening Jacobhouse, and a beef pasture inspection. This was ensued by about 3 hours of writing, and at 12 PM, I prepared and cooked an enormous Master Blend chuck steak. Lunch occurred at 12:30 PM and consisted of the aforementioned beef, a springmix-spinach salad, and watermelon.
(6:15 PM Update:) Afternoon activities were initiated with Master Blend correspondence, sign-making (deSIGNing) / ordering from Vistaprint, and a 20 minute rest. I next ventured outdoors to help with cattle-related tasks, including: running up from the field / breeding four beef cows*, catching a cow for embryo transfer, checking the barn for ailing creatures, treating one calf with pink-eye, and performing the evening’s final beef pasture inspection.
Final Note: Now that I have returned to Jacobhouse, I am going to conclude this entry before cutting up another watermelon and preparing a baked potato for dinner.
*We utilized this occasion of four coinciding bovine heats to split two straws of Gaur semen. Padre and I both believe it is the first time cattle in Florida has been bred to this specie of bovine.
Interesting how a couple 9 1/2 ml straws of 27 year old semen can help one venture off the path of normalcy and in a new direction.
