7/24/2020 – Chicken.

7/24/2020

(Above: Orange-butter basted chicken sitting in a pool of delicious drippings.)

Summary: Today began with calisthenics, checking the beef pasture with Padre, and the weekly cleaning of Jacobhouse. At about 9 AM, I began writing and continued until 10:30 AM whereupon I prepared the dry-brined chicken for cooking via basting it with a mixture of freshly-squeezed orange juice and butter (and also shoving a couple orange-halves inside the bird) and placed it in the oven. Writing continued for about forty more minutes until I visited Padre at the studio. This lasted a perfect 55 minutes, for when I returned to Jacobhouse the chicken registered exactly 163 F on the thermometer. Lunch was eaten at 12:45 PM.

(5:55 PM Update:) Afternoon activities began with more writing, a rest in the Jacobhouse bed, and putting together the majority of this entry. At 3:00 PM, I ventured outdoors where I helped with various farm activities, including: capturing a cow for embryo transfer, checking the beef pasture for ailing cattle, bringing a lame Brahman mother some grain, and inspected the bovines in the feed barn.  A seltzer break was ensued by my returning home. There, I cut watermelon, prepared a baking potato for dinner, and fed Doug the sourdough starter.

The last melon (for now):

The Tragedy.

Part two:

A prime melon – not a tragedy after all.

Final Note: All that is remains for the evening is the final beef pasture check, dinner, and leisure time. Excellent.
