Weather: Weather has remained very stable with temperatures beginning in the low 50s and warming into the mid 80s. Sunny y seco (dry).
Up at dawn:
Due to the time change, I am now rising before the sun. Thus, I was able to capture this image. Sunrise over Taxco.
The prominent building in this scene is, of course, Santa Prisca Cathedral. The prominent bit of greenery? Casa Spratling’s grand ficus.
This picture was taken from the Church of Guadalupe.
Breakfast at Scaffecito – A quiet and very fitting place to read the book about the founder Taxco’s Silversmithing Industry – 10/10
Breakfast: Fruit (pineapple, mango, banana, and cantaloupe) accompanied by yogurt, coffee, and seltzer.
A quote from “The Silver Gringo – William Spratling and Taxco” by Joan Mark. This book was lent to me by Vio, the hostess of my month-long AirBNB stay. It is a fitting read, because I am staying in what was once William Spratling’s house.
Lunch at Irma Pollos al Carbón – I returned here because of prior experience in January… very happy – 10/10
The fantastic view to be seen from Pollos Irma upper balcony. I arrived half an hour before opening time, but they let me sit up top and rest while waiting.
The first plate: tortilla chips accompanied by in-house-made salsa. The verde was good, but I really liked the pico de gallo, and the spicy red (chili flavor was quite heavy).
The full spread at Pollo Irma’s: the three aforementioned salsas, a bottle of Coca Lite, fresh tortillas, and a plate bearing chicken al carbon, patatas fritas, beans, rise, and carrot salad. It was as tremendous as I remembered, and I plan on making some BBQ sauce to bring and try on the chicken. Perhaps a BBQ chicken wrap?
Grocery shopping at SÚPER CHEDRAUI TAXCO:
The… lengthy… receipt from today’s groceries. I do like how Chedraui organizes the items on the receipt into different categories: I.e. drinks, spices, dairy, and etc.
The full spread of Chedraui Groceries. This includes ingredients & spices for: BBQ sauce, baked potatoes, fried eggs, pastries, breads, pizzas, and salads.
It also consists of tools for cleaning up the kitchen and measuring ingredients.
All of it cost 1,599 pesos or about $79.95
Dinner at Casa Spratling – Cook Jacob is in the house – 10/10
A simple fare of 6 scrambled eggs accompanied by a salad dressed in handmade Balsamic vinaigrette.
Final Note: After a week of not cooking, having access to a kitchen feels liberating. I have all the basics; tomorrow I think I’ll go procure some of the more specialty ingredients from the Mercado. It is time for some experimentation.
