Weather: Today began in the mid 50s and warmed into the mid 80s. Cloudy late-day.
Morning in Taxco:
Dawn over Taxco on 4/13/2022.
Breakfast at Scaffecito – Fruit, Coffee, and Fahrenheit 451 – 10/10
A delectable fruit bowl containing banana, papaya, pineapple, and mango. It was all excellent, but the mango was my favorite.
The noontime walk:
A Calliandra houstoniana plant found on the way to Cristo. It bore a plenitude of pinkish-red thread-like flowers.
Alpine scene from the hill just above Cristo.
A simple lunch of two tamales from a street vendor:
Tamale rojo de puerco (red pork tamale). Though there was very little pork in this tamale, the seasoning and the roasted peppers were excellent.
Tamale verde de pollo (green chicken tamale). Though the prior was excellent – especially the roasted pepper – the slight acidity and the meat within this tamale was delicious and somewhat reminiscent of yesterday’s chilaquiles.
A short jaunt to Church of Guadalupe at dusk:
View from the Church of Guadalupe at 7:30 PM [4/13/2022].
Dinner at La Hamburguesa – A far better burger than I expected, and a good salad besides – 9/10
A glass of wine and a relatively quiet atmosphere – both conducive to a fine evening meal.
La ensalada mixta topped with Blue Cheese and some pickled peppers. The latter were meant for the burger, but they also went very well on the salad.
From the balcony, I had an excellent view of the processions occurring in the Fountain Square.
I was even able to see some of the penitents bearing massive bales of thorns struggle by with their burdens. The bale was so heavy that they were accompanied by attendants who were there for if the thorn-bale-bearer collapsed.
A double-patty burger bearing Oaxaca cheese and mushrooms. The latter would have been better if sautéed from fresh (they were canned), but the Oaxaca cheese and the juiciness of the patties made up for that by a long shot. The pickled peppers also lent some extra kick to the sandwich.
Dessert at Chu-Cho – A Tasty Treat, but not as delicious as remembered – 6/10
Chu-Cho: A tidy, new-age establishment thriving at 8:30 PM in the evening.
Churro relleno – a hollowed out churro filled with vanilla creme. Quite tasty and very fresh. Almost too fresh; it burnt the tip o’ me tongue.
Statue head of Juan Ruiz de Alarcón just outside of Chu-cho, glaring somewhat judgmentally at me as I ate my vanilla-creme-filled churro.
Final Note: It is with somewhat mixed sentiment that I have arrived at the halfway point for this adventure to Taxco. It feels like this culture has so many things correct: more value on experience rather than wealth / materialism, a system of economy and law that promotes experimentation (less regulation), and a more laid-back atmosphere where one can help or talk with others without thinking “I could or should be working on something else right now“. Alas, in spite of all these benefits and more, it does not have home or the people to go along with it.

Great pictures yet again, your sharing allows me to step out of my typical routine and into your shoes for a step or two, thanks. As for your closing comments, I believe I can relate no doubt.
